Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a little summary of what we all missed out on by not attending the Venice Film Festival. Scarlett (ddrrroooolll), Depp (drrooo... um, I mean... he's cool), Winslett (more droooolll), Pacino, Tarantino... Now Tarantino is on my shit list. He's taking his AUSTIN tradition of cool '70s drive-in/grindhouse flicks and teaming up with Joe Dante (which is cool as he still rules, even if he did direct that terrible LOONEY TUNES movie) to present a mini-QT fest in Venice. Yet he still can't come back here and give us a QT fest... Oh well... Good for you folks lucky enough to be in Venice, bad for the rest of us! Anyway, lots of cools hit going down this year. Take a peek!
Hi, Harry and staff!
I've already sent you a few reviews from the German "FantasyFilmfest" and now i wanted to inform you about the 61st Venice Film Festival which doesn't mean that i have been there!
Check out this site for more Venice info!!!
There aren't any reports on your site yet and i hope that you'll get many from those who are there now. There were many articles on your site last year and i hope we'll get the chance to read a few reviews from the 61st festival which is going on right now in Venice-Italy. But there are already interesting articles from online-newspapers and other sites and i want to give you a few lists of stars and films just in case that i can add something which you haven't heard yet.
Actors/celebrities and directors & producers and films who/which were/still are in Venice Festival:
I can't list every one of course but just a few or which i consider as important to mention. If you thought that the festival in Toronto was packed with stars then you should check out these people in Venice :-) The top of the crown:
A few names of the jurors: Spike Lee, John Boorman(!), Scarlett Johansson
Films and the people who are all there to promote or present their films or 'cause their films are on contest for the awards or they are members of the Jury etc.:
Charlotte Rampling: "Le Chiavie Di Casa"
Maggie Gyllenhaal, John C. Reilly: "Criminal"
Claude Chabrol: "La Demoiselle d'Honneur"
Tom Hanks(+Rita Wilson), Steven Spielberg(+Kate Capshaw): "The Terminal"
Lauren Bacall, Nicole Kidman: "Birth"
JadaPinkettSmith, JamieFoxx, Tom Cruise, Michael Mann: "Collateral"
Ki-Duk Kim: "Binjip"("Bin-Jip"?) or "3-Iron" (Surprisingly, Kim managed to bring this film in the last second as a contender in Venice. And it seems that this film got many positive reactions from the audience)
Click here for Filmfest.com's 3-Iron review!!!
Wim Wenders, Michelle Williams: "Land of Plenty" (A film about USA after 9/11)
Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons: "The Merchant of Venice"
Harvey Weinstein with Johnny Depp&Kate Winslet presents: "Finding Neverland"
Alejandro Amenábar: "Mar adentro"
Mike Leigh: "Vera Drake"
Mira Nair, Reese Witherspoon: "Vanity Fair"
Spike Lee: "SheHateMe"
Quentin Tarantino, Joe Dante(!): Both directors presents "Italian Kings of the B's" a kind of a retrospective of old Italian B-movies from 1959-1974 where you can easily recognize that all these movies inspired Tarantino. (man it's good to hear from Joe Dante again)
Jonathan Demme, Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep: "The Manchurian Candidate"
Scarlett Johansson, John Travolta: "A Love Song For Bobby Long"
Ellen Barkin(!): "Palindromes"
"Mysterious Skin" by the American Gregg Araki who's known as a photo artist
"The Hamburg Cell" which was already reviewed by someone on aicn.
I'm not sure about Tim Robbins but perhaps he was in Biennale to promote "Code46" but i could be wrong...
Robert de Niro is also expected but i dunno when or if he's already there etc.
...and the world premiere of "Shark Tale"
I want to repeat: I'm NOT in Venice and i didn't attend the Biennale. I'm just writing a few facts(and adding my own shit) which i've read and heard in news etc.
Your, CurryIce
