Good News for Bad News!

Hey folks, Harry here with news regarding that damn BAD NEWS BEARS remake. The original 1976 Walter Matthau feature was and is a perfect film. This is one of those projects that when they first announced it I was in absolute misery in regards to the very concept of remaking it. HOWEVER...

Today, in the Hollywood Reporter it was announced that Richard Linklater will be directing Billy Bob Thornton in a remake of THE BAD NEWS BEARS... Not only that, but that the screenwriters behind BAD SANTA (Glenn Ficarra and John Requa) have been writing the script. What does this mean? It could mean greatness.

After SCHOOL OF ROCK, I think just about all of us can agree that Linklater has a profound gift in coaxing performances out of squirts, shrimps and small-fries... and if there's anyone that can pull of a Matthau-esque character, it's gotta be Thornton. This project actually has a high chance of being not just good, but perhaps even great. Besides, I can see Billy Bob handing a kid a beer... how 'bout you?
