Alejandro Amenabar's newest pelicula, MAR ADENTRO, gets glowing praise!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a very nice review of Alejandro Amenabar's newest flick, MAR ADENTRO. I'm dying to see this flick, especially if it's half as good as the below reviewer leads us to believe. Enjoy the review!

Hey, Harry and company, Nando here with a review of the latest flick from Alejandro Amenábar y Javier Bardem, “Mar Adentro”.

My english is only average, so I hope you can forgive me if I make some mistakes. I’ll do my best.

First of all, some background information. However, I don’t want to give away too much, so let’s just say that this film is based on the true story of Ramón Sampedro, a spanish sailor who became a very famous and a very controversial figure some years ago here in Spain.

Well, what can I say? The movie si AWESOME. AMAZING. INCREDIBLE. Simple as that. Amenábar and Bardem are two of the most talented people working in films these days, and with this movie they prove it more than ever.

But beware: this film has nothing to do with “Tesis”, “Abre los Ojos” and “Los Otros” in terms of genre, in terms of “mood”: there you don’t have the thriller, the suspense element. This is drama. The best drama I’ve seen in ages. Some themes and situations, tough, reminded me of “Abre los Ojos”. I guess you could say that both films are, in some ways, like distant relatives.

What more can I say? In this movie the plot isn’t important. It almost has no plot. What’s it about then? It’s about life. This movie is about love, pain, joy, dignity, sadness, rage, duty, sacrifice, generosity… it’s about all the greatness and all the misery of life. I cannot explain it in other way. It’s about all the things that make life worth living and all the things that can make life hell on Earth.

This movie will make you laugh, will make you cry (sometimes at the same time)… this movie will take hold of a little piece of your heart. It did in mine. And I’m sure it will never let go.

The directing is superb. Amenábar at his very best. It’s very difficult to believe that he can get better than this. The cast is perfect. Javier Bardem is incredible, of course (like always), but all the performances are extremely good. All and every one of them. Long story short: all in this flick is perfect, because all is alive, all is real.

I’m absolutely sure this will be one of the best movies of the year (if not the best). With a little bit of luck (meaning with the right promotion) this movie will get at least nominations for Movie, Director, Actor and Original Screenplay and maybe Supporting Actress, Score, Make Up and some other.

So, when you have the opportunity, please, please, please, do yourself a favor and go see this movie. And if it’s possible, with someone you love by your side. Don’t let this incredible experience pass you by.

I’m sure that very soon you will have some other review much better than this, but I only wanted to share with you all the deep emotional impact this movie had on me.

Nando
