Let's find out about THE HAMBURG CELL....

Hey folks, Harry here... Well here's a film that isn't going to be very popular, but if handled right... it could be very powerful. A few years back, long before the terrible events of 9/11 I saw a film called THE TERRORIST that was brilliant in following the final days and hours of a terrorist - it was a film filled an overpowering love for life, even as the entire purpose of that film was about heading towards the destruction of it. That film was a film about a fictional account... this... new film... well, it's about the sorest of subjects here in the U.S., but it doesn't mean it isn't powerful filmmaking. Here ya go...

Hi Harry

I haven’t submitted anything to your website before. I love film, but film isn’t life, and sometime I look at your site and think, “get a life”. However I have seen a film that deserves some attention. It is on a very, very, very sensitive subject, and rightly so; a Brit film called “The Hamburg Cell”, written by Ronan Bennet and directed by Antonia Bird.

It was premiered at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival and was also just shown on the UK’s Channel 4. The film attempts to show the lead up to the events of 9/11 from the point of view of the hijackers. It will understandably be anathema to most people in America, but I think it is a film that deserves attention and debate on your site. I found it to be an intelligent attempt to look at the motivation behind the attacks, colossally misguided, horrific and wrong as they were.

I don’t think it has been shown in North America yet, and may never be. The best I can do is offer the following link:

I’ll just finish by saying that the actors who portrayed these characters deserve recognition. I hope that they don’t become hate figures. I suspect they are all Brits, and as I like to say here (without trying to coin a fascistic phrase) “Difference Makes Us Stronger”.

You can call me Guernica
