Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Man, I haven’t seen any trailers lately. Finally, today, as I started prepping this update, I sat down and played catch-up with all the stuff you’ve been sending us links to.
Hi Harry,
Stumbled upon the trailer for BIRTH on a Nicole Kidman-fansite. Now I know Nicole has a thing for vertically impaired men, but an 11-year old boy? That is just ridiculous. Especially when said 11 year old boy is none other than that weirdo kid from the travesty we know as Godsend. Rumour has it one scene in particular (with Kidman sharing more than just a bath with little Cameron Bright) will have people crying 'controversy' before you know it.
Anyway, you can find the trailer in zipped format here.
Greetz,
Steven
Keep in mind that may not be the version of the trailer we get here in the US. I like it, though. I’m a huge fan of SEXY BEAST and all of the video work that Jonathan Glazer has done, so I’m dying to see this movie. I can’t believe he cast the same kid from the miserable, stinking, horrible GODSEND, though. Maybe we’ll see something very different here, but that’s one of those unfortunate comparisons this film will have to contend with.
Over at Apple.com, they’ve got some good ones up. I adore the trailer for I HEART HUCKABEE’S, the truly insane-looking new comedy from David O. Russell. With this guy’s track record, I’m confident that this is going to be one of the fall’s coolest films, and this trailer only makes the wait harder. Same thing with the trailer for SIDEWAYS, Alexander Payne’s newest movie. I get the feeling it shows a little too much of the movie, but what it shows looks pretty darn good.
I was surprised how much I liked the trailer for Brett Ratner’s THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR 2. Errrr... I mean AFTER THE SUNSET. Yeah, it’s a Ratner film, but it looks big and breezy and stylish and fun. I wasn’t surprised at all that I thought the trailer for SILVER CITY was freakin’ great. John Sayles making a sprawling political satire during an election year? Count me in. And Chris Cooper appears to be channeling Dubya in an eerie way.
Finally, if you head over to Yahoo! Movies, you’ll find the link for the trailer to SPANGLISH, the newest film by James L. Brooks. Talking to some friends at Sony, it sounds like they don’t know quite how to get a handle on this one yet. The trailer doesn’t seem to know quite what they’re selling you, but considering how much I love BROADCAST NEWS and AS GOOD AS IT GETS, I’ll give James L. the benefit of the doubt. Besides... it’s got Paz Vega, who was so insanely shit-hot in SEX & LUCIA a few years ago. That’s a good thing. A very, very good thing. They’ve also got the trailer for CRIMINAL, which I’m seeing this week. I adore NINE QUEENS, the Argentinian film this is based on, and I’m curious to see how they’ve adapted it. So much of that film was about where it was set, and it wasn’t just another silly con game. I hope they’ve pulled it off. They’ve certainly got a great cast.
Any other new ones out there that I missed? Let me know in the TalkBack below.
"Moriarty" out.
