BATMAN BEGINS to leap off Chicago Buildings! It ain't because of the economy!

Hey Folks, Harry here with the latest on BATMAN BEGINS... Demon Dog files a report on the night's derring-do, but Superherohype has the pictures. So read the report, then check out the pics. Man I hope this works!

Hey Harry,

First time submitter. A few of my Chicago friends and I travelled downtown tonight to try and catch some of the Batman exterior filming that has been going on at night in our city. We'd been told that they were "filming something with the Bat Signal" tonight, so we figured they'd be shining the signal on the surrounding buildings.

When we arrived at the corner of Wells and Lake, we noticed that all of the filming was taking place on top of a building. One of my friends had the bright idea to catch an elevator to the top floor of a neighboring parking garage. When we reached the 13th floor, we stepped out amidst some of the crew and lighting people. I'm not sure if they could legally tell us to leave, since they stared at us a little while letting us pick our own spot to watch the filming from above.

Once we got situated, we realized they were filing actual footage of Christian Bale in full bat suit talking to Gary Oldman before diving off the side of the building. The whole scene took place next to the bat signal. After the third take, Bale dramatically climbed onto a ledge and dove off. I hadn't noticed the inflated safety mat behind the ledge, so for a second I had no idea where he was going to fall. The Bat Signal itself was cool... about 4 or 5 feet in height, with the same bat logo that has been on the film's website.

Eventually, the film crew grew suspicious of us (one of my friends was taking photos, but sadly none of them came out since she had taken the flash off) and asked us to leave. On our way out, as we waited for the elevator, we got to see a stunt double preparing to do a few takes of what Bale had just done.

I have to admit to getting a slight rush at seeing Bale climb onto that ledge and dive. Even from the distance we were at, he seemed larger than life, and for a moment I got to see what it might be like to catch a glimpse of a superhero in the midst of my city.
