Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a heads up on some coolness going down in Boston. The world-travelling LORD OF THE RINGS Exhibit has been locked down for a stint at the Museum of Science through Oct. 24th. I had the good fortune of seeing this at the great Te Papa Museum in Wellington, NZ last summer (if you go to Te Papa, make sure to go hungry because at the food court you can get a pound of french fries -aka chips- and fried chicken for, like, $3) and can vouche for it being amazingly cool. Just the miniatures alone would make this one worth admission price, but the sound system itself was incredible.
To give you an example, when I went to the exhibit it was being held on the third floor. When my friends and I were waiting for it to open on the first floor we were all startled by Gandalf booming "You shall not pass!!!" This one is for the super-geeks among us, but also for those just infatuated with what those wacky New Zealand bastards were able to accomplish. I highly, highly recommend this if you can go. Anyway, on with the email I got and be sure to click on the link at the bottom to the newspaper article with all the info!
Been following your site for years, it's great, blah blah blah
Yup, I remember a while back when Lucasfilm opened it's vaults to do a nationwide Star Wars tour that made a quick stop to age-old The Museum of Science in Boston, MA. I grew up 45 mins from there. I remember taking field trips as a kid to go see the planitarium and I used to drive all the way in to see IMAX stuff. Now my favorite museum next to the MFA is holding a Lord of the Rings Trilogy Exhibition full of all sorts of geeky goodness from costumes to props to artwork and all sorts of other behind-the-scenes stuff you can only really see if you get access to whatever vault Mr Jackson locked up.
While this may not be movie news it's definately GEEK news and I think it's great that something COOL is finally happening in New England and not on the other side of the friggen country like California or in Europe or whatever. Mabye the Democratic convention hyped Boston up enough so that the great minds who come up with venues suddenly realized that tons of ppl actualy live here. Just in case you wanna see it the show runs through to October.
Here is a link from my local newspaper CLICK IT HERE, YOU FOOL OF A TOOK! If you are interested I will write a report on it for you.
