UPDATED: Zwick dropping out! THE TALISMAN shooting suspended'''

Hey folks... Quint here. Looks like Comingsoon.net ran a story from Variety that Ed Zwick has dropped out of the project as well due to it not being able to shoot when it was set to because of the script. I told ya' so! Here's hoping that before they move forward with the next team that they have a solid, faithful script in hand! Read the below for the original story:

Ahoy, folks! Quint here with what I believe is very, very good news. I've been bitching and moaning about the adaptation of THE TALISMAN moving ahead based on a rather crappy script for quite some time now. The movie was set to shoot with Vadim Perelman (HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG) directing an Ehren Kruger (THE RING) script. I got my hands on that script and as a fan of Stephen King and Peter Straub's book I was outraged. Terrible, terrible adaptation. Thankfully, a screenwriting pair Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard was brought on to rewrite, but I was still weary that a rewrite itself wouldn't do the trick. The script I read called for a page one reconstruction.

Perelman left and Ed Zwick (THE LAST SAMURAI) was brought on to direct and shortly afterwards production was delayed so he can take a pass on the script. But it was only to be delayed for a couple of months. Now it looks like they're suspending shooting for the year to focus on the script. Good idea! This movie could be amazing if they pay attention to the book and be respectful of the source material. Consider this as rumor for right now. It's possible that just because they pulled out of Vancouver doesn't mean they're halting production, just moving it somewhere else. I'm going to try to get the skinny on this for you folks.

Seems that talisman has left the vancouver site and called it quits for the year.

They were due to start preproduction middle of july but, sited the lateness of the script rewrite and other considerations for the cancellation.
