News on James Cameron and the TITANIC SPECIAL EDITION video/laser/dvd release!

Ok, It's been about a million friggin years since Coaxial has been updated, and believe me, I have been hating to see it degrade, but it's tough for me to do both, and I was hoping Glen would be coming back soon, and we seem to have something that will bring back Glen soon, but I can't stand to see this part of the site go unupdated, so I will TRY to keep it up. Don't expect tons of updates, but I'll try... ok?
This first story is confirmed info from Goldfinger and from a hapless video clerk (a spy I happen to know is reliable) so here ya go.
Hey Harry!
Goldfinger here. Oddjob took a little detour over to
the wonder-factory of Digital Domain recently, and found
out a little bit about what master-Director James Cameron
is up to nowadays.
Seems that having now recouped from TITANIC, he is going
to put a bit more of his time into helping out around
Digital Domain (which he did co-found, along with Scott
Ross and Stan Winston). He wants to be more involved in
the running of the company, instead of just as a client,
as he was with TRUE LIES, STRANGE DAYS, and (of course)
TITANIC.
What does this mean for his next film? Who knows. But
he did indicate he would be around Digital Domain a lot
more now - so maybe he's gonna take a break from directing
for a little while? Hopefully not.
On a slightly related topic, my ex-assistant Jill Masterson
bumped into Oscar-winning producer Jon Landau (once again,
of TITANIC), and he gave her the scoop on the home video
release of the SPECIAL EDITION of TITANIC!
What we'll have, sometime next year, will be a release of
the film with a lot (and I mean a LOT) of supplements, including
deleted scenes. BUT, those deleted scenes will NOT appear
in the film, since the movie is already a Director's Cut.
(Cameron had final cut on the film, from what I believe, so
those extra scenes were cut at his insistance.) So, we'll
get the extra stuff in the supplements - which is fine by me!
We'll also see if there's going to be running commentary - it
would be nice, but Oddjob took care of Jill before she could
find out any more info. (Damn him for acting too quickly!)
In any case, that's all for now.

Ok, Harry here again. And here's some news from the 'hapless video clerk slaving endlessly in the cursed halls of the yellow and blue'....
The powers that be at Fox and Paramount and Blockbuster are looking forward
to
making another fortune off the video release of TITANIC.
Some things the budget minded film lover may want to know that Blockbuster
isn't allowed to tell you yet or doesn't want you to know:
1.) Blockbuster will be selling its excess rental stock of TITANIC for REAL
cheap after October 19th. Just how new does your copy need to be? If
you're
on a budget on parr with the contents of Jack Dawson's pockets--wait. Don't
give into the hype. Wait. That five dollar gift certificate they are
offering is basically crap in light of this information--IF you are willing
to
wait. THEY don't want you to wait. Teach them the power of your patience.
2.) If you're passing up the video release of TITANIC entirely in favor of
waiting for the DVD, you'll prolly be waiting until next year. The powers
that be want to make sure they suck every penny out of the title in hopes
that
the eager film lover will buy the video AND the DVD.
