I know only what I see here. None of my regular sources know anything more on this, do any of you? I'm dying to hear more. Salma's been picking some very good projects as of late and this one sounds like it could be a wonderful change of pace for her. Inquiring eyes and ears like mine wanna know...
Hi, there, Harry... Mafu Fontana here with news from my beautiful
paisana Salma Hayek.
She has just signed to appear in a movie based on Gabriel Garcia
Marquez' novel "El General no tiene quien le escriba", a very ambitious
proyect to be directed by Arturo Ripstein, probably Mexico´s best
director nowdays. This has been a much talked about proyect since a year
ago or so, but the director, who's movie "Deep Crimson" ("Profundo
Carmesi") was just released in the US earlier in the year. "El
Coronel..." started shooting in Veracruz earlier this month and will be
realesed in 1999.
Salma always said she wanted to work with this acclaimed director, and
has always been interested in smaller art films in Mexico, like when she
starred in "El Callejon de los Milagros", one of the most important
mexican films of recent times which earned her critical and box-office
success in her homeland and internationally as well.
Salma will play Julia, a Prostitute that plays a key role in the plot.
The movie will also star Fernando Lujan as the Coronel, spanish actress
Marisa Paredes and Daniel Gimenez Cacho (Cronos, Deep Crimson) as "El
Nogales".
As all of you drooling fanboys already know, Salma is also shooting
right now "Wild Wild West" with Kevin Kline, Will Smith and Kenneth
Branagh and will have a part on Kevin Smith's upcoming DOGMA (Which,
personally, I can't wait to see).
See you all later, and remember: DREAM SALMA.
