Sweeps Day 10: Mia Wallace Has Way Way Cool JUSTICE_LEAGUE UNLIMITED Info From WonderCon!!

I am – Hercules!!

Mongol? Alan Moore? Does this mean “Justice League” is adapting “For The Man Who Has Everything,” the greatest Superman story ever told????

And when “Mia” speaks of Miracleman, I’m guessing she means Mr. Miracle. Because we’re not that lucky.

But there will be Cerces, Cronos, Amazo, The Atom, Black Canary (voiced by "Firefly" babe Morena Baccarin), Zatanna, The Question, Booster Gold, Red Tornado, Shining Knight, The Vigilante, Star and Stripe and Jeremy Piven as The Elongated Man.

Here’s “Mrs. Mia Wallace” with all the exciting details:

Hi, gang, this is Mrs. Mia Wallace checking in from WonderCon where they screened the spectacular Justice League Series Finale and had a great panel about all things Dini/Timm. I tried to get as many accurate quotes and details as I could…Be warned, there be spoilers ahead!

Panel: Alan Burnett (producer), Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, Stan Berkowitz (story editor), Dwayne McDuffie(story editor).

(Bruce Timm): Season 3 and 4 has been picked up, and retitled Justice League Unlimited.

Starcrossed is available on DVD July 13th. It was just announced on May 7th that Starcrossed will now air first on the Cartoon Network. The network has revised its May schedule and will air the three-part episode on Saturday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Season 3 (retitled Justice League Unlimited) starts in August. There are DVD extras; lots of interviews with BT and Stan. They talk about the background of characters, why they chose this Hawkman over the Hawkman in the comic. It will be a wide and full screen. “DVD is the best way to watch it. Great Sound.” - Bruce Timm

Season 2 Finale (part 1 of 3)
Title: Starcrossed
Story by Rich Fogel
Directors Dan Riba and Butch Lumie

Opens with an untitled bogey heading towards Washington DC. It’s a Gordanian Class 7 cruiser. It is shot down by a larger spaceship just as the Gordanians threaten the White House. The door opens and Hawkman appears dramatically.

The credits roll.

Commander Ro Talon tells the JL “The fate of your world may hang in the balance.” They are here to protect us from the Gordanians. He sent Hawkgirl to Earth 5 years ago as a spy. Our defenses are “unprepared for what is about to come…the greatest evil in the universe - our mortal enemies the Gordanians…This will be the fate of the Earth unless you accept our help…We are your only salvation.”

John (Green Lantern) is mad Hawkgirl didn’t tell him. “What else aren’t you telling me?” As she stammers “Well actually…” Hawman approaches: “Darling, at last.” He kisses her and introduces himself to John Stewart.

John says “I though he’d be taller.” He broods out in the hallway, where Batman offers him unsolicited advice. “The most mysterious creatures in the universe. Women.” MM and Flash gather, too “You and Hawkgirl? Get out!” says Flash. John asks why MM didn’t read her mind and tell him. Martian Manhunter says he can’t read any of the Hawkpeople’s minds.

Meanwhile Hawkman has set up an elaborate spread of cheesy music, fireplace and food from their homeworld to seduce Hawkgirl. She thinks he is “very thoughtful.” They reminisce and he puts the moves on her. Superman interrupts on the com to say that Earth has accepted their offer of help.

The next day everyone helps build the generator that will protect Earth. Flash tries to tell Hawkgirl that Ro Talon isn’t that great. “Sure he’s big and impossibly good looking. That doesn’t make him a hero.” Just then Hawkman rescues a lamb from the path of a tractor as Hawkgirl watches approvingly.

Meanwhile, Batman and Wonder Woman are probing deeper into the fortuitous appearance of Hawkman. “I don’t believe in coincidence,” says Batman as he autopsies the enemy alien pulled from the first spaceship. Wonder Woman questions his knowledge of alien anatomy. “I know I frozen liver when I see one. I think we’ve been set up.”

Batman dresses up as an old delegate and spies on Hawkman. He hears the Gordanians are “nowhere near earth.” They catch Batman spying and order the waiting ships to “Deploy contingency forces now.”

Our military counterattacks but their weapons are jammed. The Hawkpeople have kryptonite, a gravity beam, everything needed to take down each JL member. They activate the force field generator and trap the JL. John Stewart confronts Hawk girl, “Do you ever stop lying? Who’s side are you really on?” She chides him softly “Don’t you know?” They stare into each other’s eyes. She cold cocks him. “It’s for your own good.”

TO BE CONTINUED…

The credits roll, and the panel answers questions again.

BruceT: It actually gets worse from this point on.

Q: Are you switching to Digital animation?

A: (Bruce T) There will be more digital in Season 3. Overseas (Korea) has been pushing for it because it’s tedious to draw spaceships by hand.

Q: What do you think of the new Superman movie you‘re not part of?

A: (Bruce T) All the buzz we’ve heard on Superman sounds good. Keep your fingers crossed. I’m kind of happy staying in cartoons right now. I’ve got more control. (Paul D) The corporations that own the characters translated into movies have a lot of money wrapped up in it…it can be very frustrating for a writer…The scrutiny of one thousand people. (Bruce T) I always liken it to flyng below the radar. On tv there’s not as much…interference from above…I try to cheer myself up by saying I’ll never have this kind of creative freedom again.

Q: Will there be more Batman Beyond?

A: (Bruce T) Maybe. Probably not. Maybe within the scope of the Justice League. Something similar to the Static Shock crossover, but not a full Batman Beyond DVD.

Q: What’s the deal with the name change?

A: (Bruce T) There was a 50/50 chance it would be the last episode for season 2, so we decided to go out with a bang. They came to us and said no more part 2 episodes, wanted self-contained episodes. They also vaguely asked us to rebrand the show so audiences could differentiate season 3 and 4. In retrospect they probably would have been happy just with the name change and adding Aquaman…So if anyone doesn’t like the new season, blame me. We went whole hog with guest stars every episode. This may be my last chance to play in the DC backyard. My last chance to have a Miracle Man or Wildcat. Dennis Farino is playing Wildcat. There never was a voice for him before. Some episodes will have almost no characters from season 1. Guest stars will be Green Arrow, Supergirl in episode 4 with MM as a supporting character. It’s my favorite episode of the season, but there‘s not Batman, WW, or Superman. It’s written by Bob Goodman.

Q: Who will the villains of season 3 be?

A: (Bruce T) Everyone’s favorite villain from season 1 will be back: Mongol. It’s an Alan Moore adaptation. Cerces, the Greek Sorceress, will be in a WW episode. Aries from the WW canon. Cronos. Amazo Show is the biggest episode of season 3.

Q: Will Nightwing show up?

A: (Bruce T) We don’t know what we’re going to do with Knightwing or if we ever will. We know there’s a lot of fan interest. (Paul D) If there’d been another direct to video we would have gotten around to it.

Q: What other characters are coming up?

A: (Bruce T) The Atom. Black Canary in season 4. Santana. We’ve upped her powers to sorcerous level. The Question turned out to be one of my favorite characters. Jeffrey Kuhns from the Reanimator movies plays him, and he‘s so creepy. All I want to do is Question Man episodes. Booster Gold. Red Tornado. Jeremy Piven as Elongated Man. A lot of characters show up and don’t do much…we call them Star Trek red shirts for short hand. Shining Knight. The Vigilante. Star and Stripe. (Paul D) It’s fast. It will give your VCR pause button a workout.

Q: When does the Batman Animated Series DVD hit stores?

A: (Bruce T) July. Volume 1, which is half of the first season. 27 episodes. There is talk of a second set. There will probably be a Superman set. It depends on the sales. If you can prove to WB Animation that there’s money to be made, it will be done. I would like all of my work to be on DVD.

Q: How much has violence and censorship prevented you from telling storylines like Bane?

A: (Bruce T) We didn’t have Bane break Batman’s back because then Batman would have been in a cast the rest of the season. The same thing goes for Superman and Doomsday. Some things that work well in the comics don’t work in tv.

Q: What are your dream projects? Do you want to make Kingdom Come?

A: (Bruce T) I’m not interested in Kingdom Come. It’s pretty adult and would take a miniseries. Besides, Justice League is pretty similar.

Q: What about the new Batman show?

A: (Alan Burnett) The Batman will have Gina Gershon as Catwoman, Kevin Michael Richardson as the Joker. He has an eerie voice that you have to hear. Frank Gorshin play Hugo Strange. We just recorded him yesterday and he’s great. It will be on this Fall on the Kids WB, then on the Cartoon Network next spring.

Q: I have a Teen Titans question. Who is Robin?

A: (Bruce T) Barbara Gordon (laughter).

Q: Will there be any crossovers?

A: (Bruce T) No. We all got together in one room and couldn’t agree on anything. It’s too hard. Teen Titans fits outside of the established DC Universe continuity. Teen Titans is the Episode 1 of the DC universe
