News about the X-FILES TRAILER!!!

Ok, Ok. You X-FILES fans have been dying to see the trailer, right? Me Too! Well, have no fear, it WILL be tacked onto the front of prints of ALIEN RESURRECTION this November. And guess what? The Lone "X" Man infiltrated the Chris Carter Citadel of Cinema to take a gander at the X-FILES trailer, and here ya go:

The Lone "X" Man (me) recently viewed a video cut of an "X Files" MOVIE Teaser trailer at an unnamed video house in L.A. (I think it was satellite uplinking to somewhere). It looked like a rough cut but very cool. The Fox logo begins with its usual fanfare and then glitches and blinks out. Starts with stock footage ("Video processed" to look like a tv screen)of military and Cspan footage. Screen goes black then we hear Scully's voice ("Mulder, it's me") and a high speed, high impact montage of scenes from the movie cranks up.

Shots include Mulder running on a glacier and sliding part way into a crevice, a night chase through city streets, 2 X Files trade mark shots: going down a dank tunnel with flashlights and Mulder and Scully at night looking up and being hit with a chopper nightsun light (or being buzzed by a UFO?), some armed military dudes running about, and a brief shot of Martin Landau. Scale of the movie definitely looks bigger and slicker than the TV show (no small achievment as the show is one of the best looking on the air). No Lone Gunman or Cancer man or Skinner in the montage.

The voice over during the trailer went something like "You know the past" and something alluding to the future (couldn't hear it real well and didn't want to get closer as I don't think anyone knew I was there watching). Music during the latter part of the trailer was the main title theme but I think it was re orchestrated (sounded fuller; "bigger" than the series theme).

The big surprise was the end of the trailer. The X files logo has been subly reworked (more color & slightly different font) and the title reads: "X files: Fight the Future". I don't know if this is the actual release title but the logo looked pretty much in a finished form. (The title "Blackwood" was bandied about while shooting of the movie took place). Final title card reads : Only in Theatres. I think the release date was June 19, 1998 (Friday).

SO there you have it, our first description of the trailer. Personally I can't wait to hear that damn theme in a digital theater. Should pierce you through and through. Oh boy oh boy. Personally I was hoping that the trailer would just be a full film version of the theme with a montage of film images, culminating into title graphic with the date of release. I love those all instrumental trailers!!!!
