So, anyway, I’m at an Oscar party tonight. Talking to all sorts of people about all sorts of films. And as Benicio Del Toro is shown, I happen to be talking to a guy who is in a position to know certain things, and I say, “Looks like Benicio’s already working on his look for CHE.”
”You know what he’s doing after CHE, right?”
”No,” I replied, hoping he’d tell me.
”THE THREE STOOGES for the Farrellys. He’s signed. He’s playing Moe.” Now... forgive me. But that may be the single strangest thing I’ve ever heard. I mean, I heard the rumors about Russell Crowe a while ago, and I remember when they were talking about George Clooney as a possibility... but Benicio Del Toro? Really? It won’t be funny when he starts beating on Larry and Curly... it’ll be goddamn terrifying. Didn’t anyone see him with that giant knife and the head full of acid in FEAR & LOATHING?!
Actually, I think it’s fascinating casting, and I hope they cast the other two Stooges this way. If so, it’s going to be one of those films that you’ll absolutely have to see, no matter how much it seems odd to have new people playing these characters. Keep in mind... this isn't a biopic. It's an actual Three Stooges comedy. Could be something really, really crazy. We’ll see...
