STARSKY & HUTCH is apparently the opposite of serious!

Hey folks, Harry here... I agree with the concept of cutting the kid and making Hutch unredeemable just on basic principle. If Hutch just beat the shit out of the kid, or used him to block being shot... I think that would be cool. Or if he sold him to some white slaver or to some Organ gang for spare parts... that'd be cool, but frankly... keeping him in a room tied to a chair eating Peter Pan Peanut Butter till he got bloated and fat like me, then selling him to the makers of ALPO DOG FOOD... That'd be the bee's knees!

Hello all you Ain't it Cool People,

I just got back from a test screening of the new movie by the director of Old School.  The adaptation of the 70's TV show Starsky and Hutch.  Take heed, thar be spoilers ahead,

Starsky (Ben Stiller) is a straight laced undercover detective who is simply trying to follow in his...Mother's shoes.  Hutch (Owen Wilson) is a crooked undercover detective who makes extra bucks by robbing bookies while on the job.  The two are put on assignment by the captain (Fred Williamson)  to stop the dealing of a new brand of cocaine which can not be detected by the drug sniffing dogs.  With the help of their informant Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg)  Starsky and Hutch team up against the bad guy (Vince Vaughn) and save the day the only way they can.

I'll be perfectly honest here.  The movie very, very funny.  But it is not without its problems.  For example, the three female roles (Juliette Lewis, Carmen Electra, and Amy Smart)  are extremely wasted.  They're only there for eye candy.  (Not that I'm complaining mind you, I just would have liked to see more of them.)  My other glaring problem, was that there was this kid character who was so insignificant to the integrity of the plot that his name wasn't even mentioned in the opinion paper.  However, we are forced to sit through his God-awful acting that he's in.  He is basically in there to show that Hutch has a reedeeming quality.  Not necessary, since Hutch is an insensitive jerk for the rest of the flick.  (Don't get me wrong, he's funny and very likeable but a jerk nonetheless.)

Now for the good stuff.  There is some stuff that is so wrong that it was funny.  There are scenes that the audience was laughing their asses off.  Will Ferrell has a scene that had me in tears from how hilarious it was.  Ben Stiller has a disco dancing scene that rivals even Sean William Scott's dancing scene in American Pie 3.  Snoop Dogg has finally found a part that suits him so perfectly that there is no other that can play Huggy Bear as well as he did in this flick.  MAJOR SPOILER: There is an awesome cameo (The original Huggy Bear and the original Starsky and Hutch) at the end of the flick that I guaranDAMNtee will have fans of the show clapping. END SPOILER While not as good as Old School, it makes for some good fun and tons of laughs.  I will see this again when it is officially released in theaters to see if they got rid of that damn kid.

Peace,

-Rick G
