Brief ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND review... ya know, the Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Charlie Kaufman flick!

Hey folks, Harry here... Apparently there was an ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND test screening in New York back a while, and we're just now hearing about it... I'd love to hear more! This film is coming out from FOCUS FEATURES, the same folks that are putting out LOST IN TRANSLATION & 21 GRAMS this year and put out THE PIANIST last year... Apparently they have the rather absurd notion of putting out GREAT FILMS... shock, gasp, choke... They'll be run out of town on a rail I tell ya! God, I hope not. As much as I anticipate RETURN OF THE KING or KILL BILL or PETER PAN or THE MISSING... I'm anticipating ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND. It is my favorite Charlie Kaufman script and well... I absolute love Kate Winslet, she has stolen so many cinematic breaths in her films from me... Her work in HEAVENLY CREATURES, TITANIC, IRIS, QUILLS and others has all been exemplary... but here... here she has the role of a lifetime. Her Clementine will erase Cathy Downs' fiery Clementine as owning the cinematic memory of that name... even as Joel forgets it. The review doesn't go much into the story, if you want to learn more about this film, Click here for my script review or click here for Nordling's review! The film no longer has a release date, I'm told it has been moved to next year from its soft release that was to begin this November in New York... Wonder what is happening with this possible future masterpiece!

Hey Harry -

Caught a test screening of this a while back in NY. Haven't had time to throw a review your way. I'll keep it short to try to preserve some of the freshness, although I know the script has been floating around the net for a while.

MAke a long story short, Jim Carrey plays Joel. KAte Winslet plays Clementine. Joel and Clementine were a couple who were together then broke up, and then - because this is a Charlie Kaufman script - she had him erased from her mind. He then does the same, realizing throughout the brilliant dream/memory erase sequences he loves her. Throw in a dash of Tom Wilkinson, Some Kirsten Dunst, a little Elijah Wood and a naked Mark Ruffalo.

This movie kicks ass. Plain and simple. Jim Carrey is the fuckin man dude and hopefully this will be the film to get that fool some respect - so to speak. The supporting cast is equally outstanding, but the film belongs to Kate Winslet. Who, before this film, I downright hated. I've come to enjoy her over the course of the film, a lot. Oh, and Kirsten Dunst is not naked in the film. And I think there might have been a White Stripes song.

I'd write more but I'm at work. Hope this is helpful.
