Traktor checks out the horror flick LOVE OBJECT!

Hey folks, Harry here... This film sounds like the "Story of Ravvy," only filmed and on screen... that's scary. I'm curious to see if they really did capture it, or if... whatever the twist in the middle is... if it really does take it where I don't want to go. Sounds like good material for a scary film about obsession. Here's Traktor with the story...

How's it hanging Harry? Long time reader, first time poster, all that goodness.

Just got back from the Love Object screening at the Arclight in Hollywood. Thanks for the heads up, Quint!

I liked the movie, I won't say that I loved it, but I liked it's weirdness and even more so it's courage to be weird. It was the kind of movie that I was really into until about halfway through and then the second half just didn't come through for me as much as I wanted it to. I think it mainly was a script trick that didn't pay off the way it could have.

The plot of the film is an interesting one to say the least. Boy is lonely and insecure. Girl begins to work at his office. Boy has crush on Girl, but instead of just asking her out, he manifests it all into the creation of a ten thousand dollar almost real Sex Doll. Sex Doll begins taking over Boy's mind and begins to control him which seems fine by him until he does really start seeing the real Girl. Boy tries to turn real Girl into his version of Sex Doll and all eventually unravels, leaving Boy to turn psychopath. That's all I'm going to say on that, as there were some interesting plot twists I'd rather not ruin for those who want to see it.

The acting was up and down, but strong for the most part. Melissa Sage Miller does a good job as the object of affection turn girl in distress. Brad Henke and Udo Kier had some funny moments along the way(Spring loaded arm, nice way to deliver that one Brad!) Rip Torn seemed a tad bit like he was phoning it in and had a cue card reader sense about him in all his scenes.

But, the stand out in this film is Desmond Harrington. He doesn't just show up on the screen, he commands it. If it were not for his performance, this film would fall flat on it's face. He's simply awesome and it makes me hate that I have to wait for his next film. I read he was doing a film called Three Way Split, which sounds like it has a thriller edge to it, territory it seems Harrington has tread before. But after some of his moments in Love Object, both those funny and dark, I think this guy could do anything. The imdb also says he is in a film called Standing Still. Does anybody know about this? Harry? Anybody? Sounds cool and as long as Harrington is in it, I'm there.

The look of the film was cool and director Parigi(sp?) adds strong visuals to moments that wouldn't normally be visually stunning. It looks like they shot on a high-def digital and the only moments that really made the digital noticeable were in Harrington's office. The sound design also rocked. Kudos to that guy or girl. Well, that's it for me. It's definitely not a film for everybody, but at least it's something that is original. And as far as Sex Doll cinema goes, I highly preferred it to French comedy Monique...

I'm outta here!
