MECHA-STREISAND sent in a little more information about what we can expect from the forthcoming animated series based on this summer’s "Godzilla" theatrical release. You can access Coaxial’s last "Godzilla" animated report (referenced herein) by CLICKING HERE.
I’ve distilled some of MECHA-STREISAND’s lengthy information in to a less detailed, less "spoiled" version for your consumption. There are a few references in MECHA-STREISAND’s message that might have ruined a few surprises in the feature film, so I worked around them to preserve those elements, while still conveying the essence of what MECHA-STREISAND said.
Here’s my version of what MECHA-STREISAND sent in.
NICK TATOPOULOS - the young semi-reluctant "hero" of the feature film - will lead an organization called "HEAT" (Humanitarian Ecological Attack Team). HEAT, as you might note from it’s anagram, in an environmentally oriented organization that deals with natural situations categorized as "emergencies".
The people of HEAT use a boat called the SEEKER. The SEEKER is a well-equipped vehicle that is also filled with "junk food".
The series will open with TATOPOULUS discovering Godzilla’s body has actually been frozen into a state of suspended-animation by the cold waters of the Atlantic. Feeling that Godzilla’s motivations had been more-or-less misunderstood during the events portrayed in the film (won’t tell you the rationale for this, but it is logical), TATOPOULUS talks his team into rescuing the beast, towing it to an isolated area and nursing it back to health (over some of the team’s objections). During this process, Godzilla will bond somewhat with the team - but even through this closeness, Godzilla’s behavior is described as "unpredictable".
The problem is, a creature as large as Godzilla can only remain hidden for so long. MAJOR HICKS and his military people find out that Godzilla isn’t dead, and the chase is on. TATOPOULUS feels that Godzilla is a creature that must be protected, and that we need Godzilla to help defend ourselves against the various monsters and aliens and beasties enumerated in Coaxial’s last report about this series. HICKS thinks Godzilla needs to be dead. Period.
So we need Godzilla, even though the military thinks otherwise. TATOPOULUS knows this, and works to protect Godzilla from their efforts to find it. Godzilla needs Nick and HEAT to deal with his pursuers on a human level. The world needs Godzilla to protect it from the trials to come. This conundrum, and accompanying subtext of nurturing and understanding and need, will serve as the basis for the series.
NICK TATOPOULUS won’t be alone in his adventures. Joining him in HEAT will be a character named ELSIE, a bombshell French paleontologist who has extreme doubts about Godzilla’s safety and motivation.
RANDY - teenage hacker boy ((Glen Note: Randy = cliché) has a huge crush on Elsie, and totally digs Godzilla. DAVID, a nervous electronics whiz who is scared shitless of big monsters (he’s in the wrong series, then), and has some kind of attitude going with Randy. Finally, AUDREY - a character from the film - will return to the animated series in her role as a reporter. Past girlfriend of TATOPOULUS, she’ll form the third side of a triangle between NICK and ELSIE.
