Hey folks, Harry here... Here's a look from a Press Screening of what, from trailers and advance word, seems to be the limpest most flaccid flick of the summer. Which is sad, cuz I like both Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett, but man... The trailers make it look so painfully mediocre and this review doesn't help any. Here ya go...
Saw this at the Press Screening last night at the Archlight.
Basic Plot-
The Vetern Cop(Harrison Ford) Hooks up with The Rookie(Josh Hartnet)....(Like we haven't seen this before)....they pair of them try to crack a case where a rap group called H20 CLICK was gunned down in a club concert. Meanwhile....Harrison Ford is moonlighting as a Real Estate agent and Josh Hartnet is a want to be actor who is into Yoga! The Pair are also being investigated by Internal Affairs while Harrison Ford is Banging The IA detectives old girlfriend.
What I liked-
I enjoyed many of the inside jokes about the industry. It was nice to see Martin Landau in the film.....Josh Hartnet doing a bad stage production of Streetcar named desire was hilarious.
What I Didn't Like-
This film was close to two hours and the first hour and fifteen minutes had a been there done that feeling. The whole rap group angle has been done one way or another. There were some cameos that distracted from the movie! As much as I like Harrison Ford....I couldn't help but think that Kevin Costner would have been a better choice....Ron SHelton got great performances out of Costner in Tin Cup and Bull Durham and I think Costners Persona would have fit the character better....maybe it is just me! You have to sit thru a'lot of dull stuff before the movie picks up and gets interesting.
Final Opinion-
There is so much Crap out there in the Theater these days!....This is an OK movie...I have seen a'lot worse than this....but given Ron SHeltons track record...I expected more. I think Cops will love the film as Baseball fans love Bull Durham and that Golf fans Adore Tin Cup! There are some laugh out loud moments.....I just think the movie should have went for more humor! I would have never said this before the film.....but they were having a screening of the Italian Job downstairs and I wish I had seen that!
