Newsbits on Wolfgang Petersen's TROY!

Hey folks, Harry here with a few bits on Troy... First up is a report from Ord Mandell, who declares TROY the first thim his "piddly little island" will feature as a co-producing country on the credits of an epic movie. However, I may be wrong, but I believe that POPEYE was shot entirely in Malta, and that was definitely an epic movie light years ahead of its time. God I love Altman's POPEYE! Anyway here's Ord...

Hey Harry,

Troy, starts shooting today here in Malta.

For the first time ever our piddly little island is to feature as a co-producing country on the credits of an epic movie (yippee!).

Troy is being shot at a host of locations, including Hal Far, Fort Ricasoli, where the city of Troy has been constructed, Mtahleb, Ghajn Tuffieha, Golden Bay, Mellieha, Cirkewwa and Dwejra. For the non-Maltese readers out there those are places where there are plenty of run down/ancient Greek-looking buildings.

Starring Brad Pitt, who arrived on Friday, it's being directed by Wolfgang Petersen (The Perfect Storm). Its cast also includes Eric Bana (i.e. The Hulk), Orlando Bloom and Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings), Julie Christie and Peter O'Toole. Helen, "the face that launched a thousand ships", is German actress Diane Kruger.

Troy is being filmed over a total of 100 days and has already shot for two weeks in the UK, continuing in Mexico after filming in Malta is completed on July 4. The film was originally meant to be shooting in Malta for six weeks, but was extended to nine.

Also attached are a couple of pics. First is the set of the City of Troy under construction at Fort Ricasoli while the second picture shows an early test of one of the ships that are going to be used in the movie. (HARRY NOTE: Ord's Pics didn't come through in email sadly)

If you publish this on your website please call me Ord Mandrell.

Meanwhile, If you've been curious what Diane Kruger... their HELEN will look like, here's an image for ya...

Meanwhile, Nabi sent in this picture which originally appeared in the Times Of Malta Personally, I'm not gonna be happy till we see a big wooden horsey!
