Squifster comments on CUBE 2: HYPERCUBE - coming to Sci Fi Channel Apr. 5!

Hey folks, Harry here with a last look at CUBE 2 before it airs on the Sci Fi Channel in a few days. The original CUBE was one of those films on such a small budget, but so much originality... So much cleverness, in place of budget and FX. What money and FX they had, they used to perfection. I'm looking forward to finally seeing this one. Let's see how it plays out finally here in the States, where nobody releases modest budget genre entertainment in theaters anymore... So I suppose we'll never see the next TERMINATOR-like.... MAD MAX-like films in theaters anymore. Because nobody actors like a former Mr Atlas and some Australian hunk that noone has ever heard of... They won't be coming out of the low budget world... perish the thought...

hey harry

squifster here from the sunny climes of the uk, where drinking tea and eating cucumber sandwiches is a national pastime. i tried writing you a review of cube2:hypercube the other day but obviously you thought it sucked! and you were probably right, as i did attempt to write it after a 12hr night shift and the little ol eyelids simply weren't interested in staying open. so i have decided to give it another go.

firstly i am a bit shocked, that cube2 hasn't hit stateside yet. i saw it a few months back courtesy of a reliable source, incidently the movie is now out here on dvd to rent and yep you guessed it those "blockbuster" boys managed to get their grubby little hands on it before it had a chance to grace our multiplexes.

well after watching the first movie, i felt a warm glow of satisfaction finally an indepent low budget sci-fi movie that really kicked ass. the plot was gripping and mysterious and i found myself transfixed to the screen. not even a bulging bladder was gonna tear me away!

so the natural progression of the studio types dictated that after a successful first movie which i might add kinda has a bit of a cult label attached to it. that they would follow their own success and make a rollicking good sequel! oh how wrong they have been? they tried but failed pretty dismally to be honest.

cube2:hypercube is a carbon copy of the first, 8 strangers wake up in cube shaped white light lit rooms without any recoglection of how they got there. so they spend the entire movie moving around from one room to the other trying to figure a way out. throw in a few nasty little traps, distrust and a lot of conflict, plus a couple of gruesome deaths by poor cgi and end the movie! simple it worked the first time why not the second time round too? because that was what made cube so cool! it was original, new, hip and fresh and after the first movie the viewer wants more in a sequel, more intrigue, more originality more story................hypercube does try to give that more so towards the end but fails pretty dismally

its characters are also carbon copies too, you have the mathematician, the retard, the dodgy cop (played by Geraint Wyn Davies of FOREVER KNIGHT fame), the heroine and so on and on and on and on...............and that pretty much sums it up. i found myself wanting, waiting for the end credits to roll up, and unlike the first i found myself empty my bladder frequently throughout! was this my subconcious kicking in? dragging me away to stop the death of millions of brain cells from bordem and shoddy acting? or did it have something to do with the 12 cans of stella artios i was chugging back in an attempt to make this a more enjoyable experience? thats for you to decide....................and decide you can... a reliable source informs me that cube2:hypercube will air stateside on april 5th on the sci-fi channel so get the stella in and judge for yourself
