Lord Muggle witnesses an advance teaser spot from PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... In a wierd way, this is the film I'm most looking forward to this summer. Actually, I'd have to quantify that... this is the movie I'm most ANXIOUS to see. I really want this movie to work. I love the pirate film as a genre, and frankly the curse angle could be a great deal of fun. I'm also hopeful as hell that Gore Verbinski has knocked this out of the stadium, because his THE RING could've sucked something fierce, and instead... he nailed it pretty damn strong. I'm dying to see a real trailer for this baby. Here ya go...

Hey Harry,

I recently caught a rough cut of the 30 second TV spot for "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl". The special effects weren't finished. In fact, quite a few of the f/x shots came directly from the CGI animation tests that were up online a few weeks back.

The spot starts with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom (who is featured even more prominently than Depp) having a conversation in a room presumably about their ship. Depp says something like "Are you sure your willing to do this?" Bloom says "I would give my life for her." What follows is a series of extremely dark, un-Disney like images of skeleton pirates trudging along the ocean floor, hacking at human pirates with swords, and over all creating lots of chaos.

The rest of the trailer was cut extremely fast, so I'll try to list some of the shots that stood out:

-All the human pirates are gathered around the plank, while one character stands at the end, ready to jump off into the water.

-A character swings from a rope ala Tarzan or one of those old swash-buckler movies.

-Elizabeth, Bloom's love interest, falls to her doom.

-There is only one very quick shot of Geoffrey Rush in the entire spot, smirking and looking evil.

-Characters dueling with swords as lightning strikes in the background.

-The best shot of the trailer, in my opinion, is when a skeleton hand bursts through a wall and grabs Johnny Depp by the throat. His reaction: "That's interesting"

Overall, it looks to be a great action adventure film. I've loved Gore Verbinski ever since I first saw Mouse Hunt (a vastly underrated film), but hated both The Mexican and The Ring. Now he finally seems to be delivering the kind of stylish and clever story telling he promised audiences with his first film.

Anyone who thinks that this is just going to be some stupid Disney movie will be very pleasantly surprised after seeing this 30 second spot. I can't wait to see the whole trailer.

You can call me Lord Muggle.
