Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
I met a number of the guys over at Maverick Films last year as part of something that ended up not happening, and they seemed like good eggs. They were serious then about turning the company, seen by many as a vanity extension of Madonna’s record label, into a serious film division that could stand on its own.
I also met the folks at Hurricane Entertainment when they were good enough to provide give-away goodies for the folks who came to our advance screening of THE RING, including a short SNAKE PLISSKEN CHRONICLES comic and copies of their VIOLENT MESSIAHS: THE BOOK OF JOB graphic novel. I’m not above nicking a bit of swag when it’s interesting, and I ended up reading THE BOOK OF JOB. It’s a seriously bloody bit of nihilism, but there’s no denying... it’s interesting, and in the right hands, it could be one of those films that doesn’t depend on any sort of knowledge of the source material to be enjoyed.
Anyway... here’s the news as it’ll be announced later this week...
Madonna's Maverick Films, in conjunction with in-house Producers Kevin Cleary and Josh Morris are currently developing Hurricane Entertainment's hit graphic novel VIOLENT MESSIAHS: THE BOOK OF JOB as a feature film. Maverick and the Creative Artists Agency have put VIOLENT MESSIAHS on a fast track development cycle.
This venture marks the beginning of Hurricane's relationship with Maverick, which includes a first look deal for developing Hurricane properties for film, television and videogames. With its successful release of AGENT CODY BANKS, Maverick will be concentrating on its franchise-type film projects with VIOLENT MESSIAHS at the top of its list.
VIOLENT MESSIAHS, published through Image Comics was co-created by William O'Neill and Joshua Dysart and is penciled by Tone Rodriguez. In June Hurricane will release John Carpenter's Snake Plissken Chronicles through CrossGen Comics. O'Neill and Rodriguez will be writing and drawing the continuing tales of the infamous Snake from Carpenter's ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK film series.
You can check out the original trade paperback, or the ongoing VIOLENT MESSIAHS series, and let’s see what you guys think of its potential...
"Moriarty" out.
