Hey folks, Harry here... A film about some woods with dead bodies buried in it. Ok, now make it an Irish film called DEAD BODIES and it has Sean "THE BUTCHER BOY" McGinley in it... Ok, well... welllll, sign me up! DEAD BODIES are always worth seeing on the big screen. Man, I want to go to the Dublin Film Festival, that sounds like an excellent film festival to check out!
Hi Harry,
First time writing to you but I thought I'd let you know about a film which had its premiere last night in Dublin. It's an Irish film called 'Dead Bodies' and it's a great little movie. It was the closing film of the Dublin Film Festival which has been going on in Dublin (obviously) for the last couple of weeks. It was directed by Robert Quinn from a script by a new Irish writer called Derek Landy, who I reckon will go on to great things.
I'm sure someone will have sent you a review of the movie but, in case they haven't, I'll give you a quick overview.
Tommy (Andrew Scott who apparently was in Band of Brothers) has a pain in the ass girlfriend and (sort of) accidently kills her in an argument. He panics when he finds this out and goes to bury her body in a forest, where he discovers another body buried there. So it goes on from there. I can't really tell you much more without totally spoiling it.
It also stars two other great Irish actors - Gerard McSorley (Angela's Ashes, Ordinary Decent Criminal) and Sean McGinley (The Butcher Boy, Michael Collins).
This film is damn good and I'm sure will make it outside of Ireland. I'm sure you can't cover every foreign film made but, having seen it now, I'm amazed it hasn't been mentioned on your site already. Andrew Scott was fantastic. He has amazing expression and had a tough role to play - he killed his girlfriend and yet we totally had to root for him. He really pulled it off well. It was really well directed too. I have no idea what that guy Robert Quinn has done before but he really did Landy's script justice. Quite stylish and cool. High def dv allegedly.
It wasn't all great though, but I'm going to try to keep this pretty positive as I did really enjoy it.
Anyway, look out for it!
Thanks,
A Hockey Fan with a machete to bury!
