Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
Well, read the following letter, and you’ll see:
Yo Harry,
Been a reader a long time, but never sent anything in before. In my job here in Hell-A I have to read a lot of scripts for work, especially those with a good amount of special effects.
Recently, I poured over one of the grooviest werewolf scripts I've seen in a long time called Silver Strike and is being geared up for production by the same producers as LXG. When this script sold, it sorta started (directly or indirectly) a trend of lots of werewolf scripts selling too. I've also read most of those, for the same reason as this one, and can totally say this is hands down the best werewolf script out there right now. It's about a special forces group that hunts werewolves.
Now, I don't really get involved in the Talkbacks here, except to read 'em for entertainment value, and I bet I know what the first three or four will say.
Dog Soldiers Ripoff.
I can debunk that because I'm in the know, and know that this script sold several months before Dog Soldiers made it to Sci-Fi. I saw Dog Soldiers myself (which, frankly, I thought was just OKAY, sue me.), and this script is nothing like it. Dog Soldiers was just Assault on Precinct 13 with werewolves...and some soldiers.
Silver Strike follows a special forces group called L.A.R.T. (Lycanthrope Action Response Team), which is charged with covering up the fact that werewolves exist and fighting them wherever they are. The werewolves are attracted to really bad places, like Kosovo and Bosnia, and migrate between countries that are having revolutions and wars. They can hide easier there. I won't give too many spoilers, but L.A.R.T. stumbles on a mystery involving the werewolf clans that will have bad results for them if they don't solve it. And they only have a few hours to do it (the time it takes for a total lunar eclipse to happen that night).
It really is a cool mixture of war movie with horror/action, with big time action scenes, and a really cool, revisionist take on werewolves. The guy who created it is J. Barton Mitchell. He's kind of like what you would get if you crossbred James Cameron with Neil Gaiman......actually, not a pleasant thought, is it?
It is dope. I think it will do for werewolves what Aliens did for....well, aliens. Hopefully, it will start shooting maybe this summer, when they find a director.
Anyway, if you print this, call me:
Duncan Idaho
Wow. Lots of werewolves and vampires coming up in the next few years. Let’s see if these guys can manage to put a distinct spin on things. Also, let’s hope we hear more from Duncan Idaho, who just might be a cooooool new spy for us...
"Moriarty" out.
