Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
Okay. Look. Somehow, this started to get out of hand. Brett Ratner has become a punching bag for fanboy rage, and he’s responding by getting increasingly hostile in press appearances. He may make a great Superman film. He may make a terrible one. Whichever way it turns out, it hasn’t happened yet. When I’ve written critically about the SUPERMAN script, it wasn’t because I wanted to hate it. Exactly the opposite. I would love for Warner Bros. to get it right and make something really cool, something that brings Superman back to life. As long as film isn’t rolling, it makes more sense to focus on what could go right rather than harping on about worst case scenarios.
Our spy today is a new source, so let’s see how this particular bit of info tests out. Maybe we’ll see more of Steel Belt Skull in the future. For now, here’s what he’s got to say:
Heya Harry!
Long time reader, first time contributor, and I had some news on Mr Butt Rattner's newest destruction "Superman".
While all this hooey has been going on about casting and who is going to be this century’s newest big blue boy scout, people have been setting rumors flying all over H-town. And you were right, my sources from the production office are indeed looking for someone who is more likely to sign the 3-pic/10 year deal as opposed to who is actually going to do a good job.
Everyone’s favorite idiot Ashton Kutcher has passed completely on the deal so that he is able to work on a film called "Intruder" which is, from what I have been able to find out, is "Toy Soldiers" meets "Unlawful Entry" and its set in *DO DO DOO DOOOOOOOO* high school. This will be Kutcher's first attempt at an action movie.
But to continue on the Superman info, production has been backed up again, this time to November. Mr Butt Rattner has a habit of pushing back a production twice before shooting. It happened before Rush hour 1 and 2 as well as Money Talks. And Warner is also talking about not giving the budget that Rattner wants, which has pushed him to have his production staff organize a possible Australian shoot. Isn't that a hoot? America's greatest hero, shot in Australia. I guess it’s a hot trend that Mr Butt has not yet exploited.
If you post this, call me........
Steel Belt Skull
I think that “10 year” thing would be a stumbling block for anyone. The cast of LORD OF THE RINGS did three films, but it was in a concentrated two-year span of time. If Warner Bros. is so dead-set on a trilogy, then maybe they should shoot them all concurrently. It would mean reworking their current plans, but maybe they’d find more flexibility from the actors they’re trying to pin to this role.
In the meantime, we’ll keep our ears open as always.
"Moriarty" out.
