A couple of weeks ago, I reported that a spin-off of the television series "Highlander" was in the works. I reported that the main character in said series would be a lady called Alex Raven. I reported that a lady named Dara Tomanovich would play this character.
Then came problems. The person who initially sent me this information said it had been misrepresented to him as *fact* - and that the information was actually "in the planning stages" and was not definite (as I had presented it).
The initial information about the spin-off of "Highlander" came from a man called THE KURGAN. In my last mention of this subject - I said he was a pretty good guy. He has recently proven my point…
Below, you will find a message which appeared on AOL - which exacerbated many letters of anger and attacks on Coaxial’s responsibility in reporting the spin-off news erroneously.
SOMEONE WROTE:
Before anyone panics:
Yes, Rysher is offering for sale show called "Highlander: The Raven."
No, that does not mean that the lead character will be Alex Raven or will be played by Dara Tomanovich.
To quote Gillian Horvath on AOL:
"Speaking of the rumor mill, here's a preemptive strike for ya: Yes, there are tear sheets out there advertising "Highlander: The Raven." Rysher needed a title for the spin-off in order to try and sell it at NATPE this month. This doesn't mean a decision has been made, or that Dara Tamonovich or Alex Raven will be the star. The HL Series was sold with "Connor" in the lead. PR materials are just that -- they are not contracts or shooting scripts."
Ummmmm - oooooookaaaaayyyy. She’s right - PR materials *are just that*. She is also right that by no means are regular PR materials "contracts or shooting scripts". But there is more to "Raven" than the mere "tear sheets" indicated above. In fact: there is a SCRIPT.
Talk about "rumor mills" and "preemptive strikes" not withstanding, I would like to explain to the readers of this page exactly *why* I reported the next "Highlander" series would star Alex Raven. I reported the next "Highlander" series would star Alex Raven because I have a script for the series pilot. No - I can’t give you copies. Sorry.
Before you all go insane, THIS DOESN’T MEAN THE LEAD IS ABSOLUTELY ALEX RAVEN. In fact, if you read THE KURGAN’s message below, you will find out that there may be problems with the "Raven" concept, and The Powers That Be may be reconsidering the premise somewhat. But it is important to me to let people know I wasn’t just pulling stupidity out of my ass when I initially reported the news that caused so much trouble. There was a reason. Because, at that point in time, there was evidence to support my claims - a tiny bit of which I put before you today.
Ladies and gentleman - I present to you three pages of script from the proposed "Highlander" spin-off series. They’re in no particular order - I’m putting them up just to give a sense of things. This is why I reported what I reported. Below these links, a bit of further clarification about the show’s status at this point in time.

((Glen Note: by the way, a script is much heavier than a TEAR SHEET))
Now, as I said above, just because this script exists doesn’t mean the *"Raven"* series will ultimately be made. The spinoff may be taking another form. THE KURGAN says:
Guess what: Gaumont’s idea with the four ladies for proposed spin-offs did not go down well with Rysher, the US/Canadian partner. They argued that any of these ladies would be a hard sell, and that the series has already established a possible spin-off character. Now everybody wants to get Elizabeth Gracen as Amanda for the spin-off. They have to make up their mind, because no matter what, shooting is supposed to start in June.
((Glen Note: Presumably, these are the actresses referenced in Friday January 16's Coaxial Update about the subject. Available on a link from Coaxial's Main Page / Index)).
There you have it folks. At this point, I don’t know how to bring this issue into sharper focus. I hope this little piece helps you to understand why I did what I did, and helps to illuminate you regarding the progress of this ever-changing spin-off concept.
