Hey folks, Harry here.... I'm going to do you a favor. There's a film called DARK OF THE SUN (aka THE MERCENARIES) that happens to be the best modern military combat film ever shot in the setting of Africa. It starred Rod Taylor and Jim Brown... oh and Yvette Mimieux. The film is tougher that chewing a mouth full of glass with a turpentine chaser. There's a good chance that you've never heard of it. The following sounds like an "ok" at best sort of film. So far, I've really not liked the trailers, and I know that Beaks was sort of wishy washy a bit on this one when he saw a rough cut, but nothing that anyone has said about the film really gets me all that excited... well, other than Monica Bellucci... but then she'll get an infant excited. Here's Brett Riley...
Hey Harry! Brett Riley here, big fan of AICN, and sending in my first review for your site.
Big thumbs-up on the site. Gets better and better! Here's my review of tears ofhe Sun. The new Bruce Willis Movie with that hot Italian woman from Malayna, Monica Bellucci. Don't know how much of it u can use.
TEARS OF THE SUN
================
Boy you guys have got a delight in store for you on March 7th. The best Bruce Willis Action movie for years is hitting theatres. Tears of the sun is like an African 'Proof of Life' - lots of action, lots of dead people, tits cut off, but the difference is this time, we have the God of Action Movies himself, Bruce Willis.
There a bunch of armies ('Skinnys of the Trail') and stuff running around some african country, and the government gets taken over and the President and is family is killed. In the middle of this, an Italian Doctor, previously married to the sun of a Senator is workingt, and basically good old Uncle Sam in the shape of hunky Bruce (Lt. Waters) withhis Navy Seals has to go in and rescue her.
Monica Bellucci is the Italian Doctor, Dr. Lena Kendricks, who runs a missionary hospital in the middle of the African bush. Her husband died whilst preventing her from getting raped. As the government loses power, the Navy Seals are sent to rescue her, but he refuses to leave without 'her people' (refugees).
She eventually leaves with a few of her people, but she can't take everyone, so a priest and two nuns stay behind with the people who are too sick. The next day, the rebels arrive at the hospital and kill them all.
Then she travels with some people, and really cool fight ensues between Kendricks and Lt Waters, and Waters tricks Kendrick to get into the helecopter, then tries to fly off without her people, but a bunch of people start getting killed and they have to fly back down to rescue them.
Honestly, there's a lot of close-ups of Bruce Willis, and sometimes, I got to think that maybe the director thought Bruce Willis's face was more important than the story. Also, Monica Belucci's body. Personally I think she's got lovely tits, but maybe more story, less tits would make the film slightly better.
So they arrive at a place called 'Pillage Village' where the rebels have run amok. A woman's breast is cut off, people's guts come out, heads are cut off, and women are raped in front of their children. Waters' arm is injured by a machette.
Near the end you find out that there's a traitor (Gideon) amongst Dr. Kendrick's refugees, who knows that she's been harbouring the son of the killed president, Arthur, the next King. The film ends with some of the main characters surviving, (Doc, Atkins, and the Prince Arthur) Bruce and Monica get into a helecopter, and fly off into the sunset to tell Arthur's story to the world.
