A First Peek At Brittany Murphy In MOLLY GUNN!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

Brittany Murphy is ridiculously cute, and I must admit... I’m almost tempted to go see bad films just to see her in them. I don’t know exactly when it was that she became so silly hot, but it happened, and now she’s starring in a film of her very own, one that our spy has already gotten a peek at...

Hey, first time writer, long time reader, just wanted to give you a quick word on Brittany Murphy's first solo starring effert, Molly Gunn, which I saw a screening of last night.

Brittany Murphy is Molly Gunn, a New York woman on top of the social scene. Her father was a rock star until he and Molly's mom died when she was 8. She now lives on the money that he left for her. But, of course, her money is soon stolen and Molly is forced to move out of her apartment and get a job. The job she gets is that of a nanny to an 8 year old daughter (I Am Sam's Dakota Fanning) to a music exec (a barely there Heather Locklear), who's the absolute biggest brat ever. Borderline obsessive compulsive, who hates anything that isn't clean or orderly, this goes right against what free-spirited Molly Gunn is. At first they hate each other, only to find out, in the end, that they're not so different and form a lasting friendship.

Umm, yeah.

So, first, the good.

Brittany Murphy is absolutely adorable. God, just loved her. She's very game to all the physical comedy she's made to do, which includes jumping into a pond of sewage, and getting hit on by a lesbian. She makes the movie watchable, and sometimes enjoyable.

Dakota Fanning as the girl Molly's taking care of isn't too bad. She drew out a few laughs, ok, more like chuckles, but not too bad.

Donald Faison, as one of Molly's friends and roommate, has some good scenes, but overall just wished he'd stick to his day job, Scrubs, the funniest show on network tv.

The Bad

The story...We've all seen it before, we know everything that's gonna happen hours before it actually happens. Now, I'm a guy who's gotten choked up in quite a few movies, so I'm not emotionless...but at the "heartfelt" moments of the film I just wanted to scream and claw my eyes out. Ugh, bad.

Heather Locklear is in like 3 scenes and is completely wasted, is she really this hard up for a job? And the guy who plays Molly's prospected love/musician just pretty sucked away any life when he was on screen. And, for a guy who's supposed to be the next big thing in music in the movie, the guy was a pretty horrible singer.

Direction by Boaz Yakin (i know i spelled that wrong, sorry) is adequate, but I was expecting more because I quite enjoyed his Remember the Titans. There are a lot of things that don't work in the movie, like when, out of nowhere, Molly is getting seduced by a lesbian, and then whatever the hell was going on between her and Faison...confusing and needing to be re-edited, as does the first 20 or so minutes of the movie which just dragged on and on. But, those can be fixed before release (not coming out till August), the over-all story and that...ugh.

Overall, not a horrible movie, cause it did have some bright spots and my love for Brittany Murphy certainly did help, just not one I'd recommend to check out.

My Grade: C-

Please Call me Tyler Crowe

Thanks, Tyler. At least you said she looks adorable. That’s pretty much all I needed to know.

"Moriarty" out.
