Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
Holy crap. I’m buying my tickets for this one tomorrow, and if you bastiges try to get in my way or buy all the tickets before I get a chance, I’ll show up wearing a flamethrower. Don’t test me.
Dennis Bartok and the fine folks at the Egyptian have been doing a kick-ass job during awards season, booking special screenings of films and inviting guests like Diane Lane (UNFAITHFUL), George Clooney (CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND), Robin Williams and Mark Romanek (ONE HOUR PHOTO), and even the gloriously demented Robert Evans (THE KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE). They also showed a brand-new print of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK for a week over the Christmas holiday. Matt Dillon fans can see a retrospective of his work, including his brand-new directorial debut CITY OF GHOSTS, at the end of this month.
But it’s February when they’ve got this year’s first truly can’t-miss event lined up, as one reader pointed out to me earlier tonight:
Moriarty,
I've read your column for a long time and have seen in the past that your familiar with the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. I don't know if your a member, so you may or may not have seen the blurb for the upcoming Skywalker Sound/ILM event at the theatre. The programs are listed on the Cinematheque's schedule page, but the links to the weeks programs have yet to be made live. The program description page has been made though, and can be found here:
Lucas will be there opening night on 6 February, and James Cameron will be there two nights later on the 8th. Public tickets go on sale on the 27th; members can buy tickets now.
The list of talent that will be showing up for each of these programs is incredible, and if you consider yourself any sort of fan of the work that ILM and Skywalker Sound have done in the last 25 years, then get your ass down to that theater, and I’ll see you there!
"Moriarty" out.
