Mexican Independent Filmmaker BETO GOMEZ to film next feature in the Texas Valley and Issues Casting Call for Auditions

Father Geek is happy to past on the information that the gifted film maker who brought us the wonderful feature film, El Sueño del Caiman is going to be filming his next motion picture in Texas' very own Rio Grande Valley. Director Beto Gomez is preparing to cast the new film, and has issued an open casting call for NEXT week... make sure to check it all out below... maybe you'll become the next Goya Toledo, or Gael García Bernal...

The CineSol Latino Film Festival, the Brownsville Performing Arts Society, the City of Brownsville, and the Brownsville Convention & Visitors Bureau have partnered to provide logistics and planning support to independent filmmaker Beto Gomez, one of Mexico’s critically-acclaimed emerging filmmakers, who is shooting his 2nd feature film in the border cities of Brownsville, Texas and Matamoros, Mexico. Beto Gomez’ first independent feature, El Sueño Del Caiman, won the audience choice award at the prestigious Guadalajara Film Festival and started an international buzz about Gomez. His style seems to “tip its hat” to some of the great films of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, yet he is definitely part of the new generation of young Mexican filmmakers who represent a new voice, a new vision and quite an independent spirit.

“We are doing what we can to help facilitate the logistics and technical planning of the film production. We have been working extensively with the film’s producer, Avelino Rodriguez, one of Mexico’s most sought after film producers who is in charge of the production. “Helping to nurture film production in South Texas has always been part of the CineSol Mission since 1993,”says Board Officer, Lupita Gutierrez Garza. “As we prepare to celebrate CineSol’s 10th Anniversary Festival in June 2003, it is wonderful that such a great young filmmaker from Mexico has chosen to shoot his 2nd feature film here in the Valley.” CineSol screened “El Sueño del Caiman” at last year’s CineSol at the historic Capitol Theater in downtown Brownville in partnership with the Brownsville Performing Arts Society and the City of Brownsville.

“The response of the Valley community to the CineSol Screening of El Sueño del Caiman was amazing”, says Festival Artistic Director Evy Ledesma Galán. “and this film production has really brought out a great spirit of cooperation among the artistic community in the Valley.”
