EURO-AICN -- Interviews Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry and Rick Yune about Bond Stuff!

Hey folks, Harry here... Grozilla, our Euro-AICN secret agent has interviewed Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry and Rick Yune in regards to their latest film, DIE ANOTHER DAY... the 20th Bond film. I hear, if you liked XXX this Bond is more in that vein than the more serious reality based Bond films. So, it seems this Bond is about entertainment first and foremost. Also, I talked with Halle Berry's agent today, who told me that Halle never dodged off the X2 set for monetary reasons, and has completed shooting her part in the film right before heading out to do press for DIE ANOTHER DAY. Now, here's Grozilla and the cast of Bond Number Twenty!

Hi,

Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry and Rick Yune were promoting Die another day this Tuesday in Paris. Nothing very important has been told, Brosnan even seems to be very moody (maybe he had been told about the reaction after the morning press screening : general boredom ! ) . Anyway here's some stuff about the new Bond formula and the Jinx spin-off...

Grozilla

There’s some underlines in Die Another Day about some " useless Bond " or "The place needs to be redecorated ". Two of the biggests success of 2002 are Goldmember and xXx. You also kind of parodied 007 in The tailor of Panama. So what’s still exciting about acting in a so codified stuff as Bond movies are ?

P.B :The twenty movies have been successful. What is the success ? It depends, I suppose, on the man playing. As the three last Bond have been successful, I guess I have been accepted in playing the rôle. And then you have the director leading the film, Bond girls and the bad guys. But Bond is constant : it’s the world around him that changes.

…Bond does, too : he has evolved here more into an action-hero than in the beginning...

…This character has been a great celebration. It allowed me to make my own films, my own company… The competitors are very strong these days. Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson have trusted Lee Tamahori to do a film that pushes the envelope in some ways. Some of the criticism lounged against Bond is it’s so formulaic. So this time we tried to move forward. The film works on different levels, different tones. The first part of it is unlike any other Bond films, then it’s more about what we know about Bond. That was the challenge of this film, I think we broke some new ground here with this character. You see the man brought physically and emotionaly to his knees, stripped of his identity, that was I would say messing with the formula. I grew up with Sean Connery and Roger Moore ; how do you make the journey on some kind of very limited framework, text or story ? So we have now kind of edged it forward. It will be interesting to see where we’ll go from here.

Rick, you were in fast & furious. What do you think of Vin Diesel saying that xXx is the new James Bond ?

R.Y : It’s like being asked what’s the best Champagne in the world. Someone tried to do it better in California but… Anyway it’s a kind of homage to James Bond legacy. There’s always room : we’ve seen Mission : Impossible, then Austin Powers. I’m sure there’s gonna be more. Maybe I’m gonna do a copycat myself, who knows…

Halle, in the middle of shooting you received an Oscar. Is it true that then, the writers said " well, let’s give her some more lines " and changed your part ?

H.B : I don’t think my role changed because of the oscar. I won the Oscar about three weeks into the shooting. But I think this movie was always some work in progress : we tried always to make it better, Lee and the writers often coming with more things to Jinx to do to be more like a partner to Bond.

When shooting Swordfish you said that you turned down being a Bond girl, what changed your mind ?

I never did. I got asked about being a Bond girl while making Swordfish, but that was after this journalist asked me " are you gonna be the next bond girl ? ". I said no because I haven’t been offered the part. It just wasn’t true in my reality at that time.

What about this Jinx spinoff rumor ?

(Laughing). Right now I don’t believe there’s any truth to that. I’ve been really flattered at the thought of it and that the producers and writers might be interested, but really, right now, we’re so busy working on the release of Die another day. As far as I know there’s nothing definitely happening on this spinoff. I haven’t been offered or agreed about it.

There has been also some rumor that is Bond 21, The character might be encountering his son…

P.B : Absolutely false.
