First Reviews of THE TWO TOWERS Score Hitting the Net with Samples!!! ACK!!

Hey folks, Harry here... I believe in about 8 hours I will be getting the score to THE TWO TOWERS well we should all hate them more... They've already got it, have heard it, probably more than 4 times, and have contemplated it... and written about it. ARGH!!!! Dying to hear it I am. Agony!

With only a month left before we see the film, I know I'll probably see some press screening a day or two before that, but I've got a serious case of the "GOTTASEES!!!"

I've had the miserable experience of hearing from folks that have seen THE TWO TOWERS - folks that are involved in production and that have had nothing to do with production... and these people just make me sick. They tell me things like: "THE TWO TOWERS - unlike 'Clones'.. it is the equivalent of 'Empire' in cinematic context." Others say it's the greatest movie of all time. I hate these people. They quantify that in the realm of Epic film production - stuff like SPARTACUS, BEN HUR, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA... that sort of thing. It makes my ears bleed. Because I'm the sort of guy that wants to believe that sort of thing. I've heard that the 'POWER PEOPLE' in Hollywood that have seen all the films that are 'The Films' folks would consider for OSCARS this year, that they feel there are only 3 films that will go all the way in terms of many Oscar Nominations and duking it out for the shiny bald one. CHICAGO, FAR FROM HEAVEN and THE TWO TOWERS.

So, the largest piece of the film that most of us will have a chance to judge before the film, is the score... a score album that represents less than half the total music used in the film mind you, but still... a big chunk.

At Soundtrack.Net They've interviewed Howard Shore about the score, reviewed the score and provided tiny samples from each track of the album. Which just... God I remember when they did this last year, it threw me into fits back then. ARGH! What did they think? Well click above, but for no spoilers folks - here's a paragraph that'll kill ya:

"As for now, Shore has gone
and hit himself another grand
slam. Like The Empire Strikes
Back before him, The Two Towers
has taken the best of what the
first film offered and delivered
exponentially more for the sequel.
As hoped, Howard Shore again
deserves the gratitude of Lord Of
The Rings fans worldwide. "

Then over at Film Score Monthly, who were first online with a review btw, they said:

When Shore's battle music tears
through his established material
transforming and dissecting familiar
themes, hurling them against one
another, layering them behind brass
clusters and savagely propulsive
cadences, it's not just good film
music, it's good art.

Well, gosh --- I guess I'll just head back to Soundtrack.Net to listen to the score samples about a zillion times and loathe that 15 second rule. ARGH! Oh... btw... I got an email from J.R.R. TOLKIEN's great-grandson the other day... Royd A.R. Tolkien, and he told me he was a fan of the site and my book... heh... cool... Yeah yeah, but this came from a Tolkien, I can't help, but geek out over that. Genetically it's way friggin cool! Well he is running a website called RoydTolkien.Com and that for the time being he's putting together a mailing list and will be giving away cool FAMILY SIGNED BOOKS & whatnot. So go get on the list!
