Hey folks, Harry here... Ok, this trailer is silly, but fun. Throughout High School my favorite thing was Band and Marching Band and Jazz Band. I played both Tenor Saxophone and Trombone. Section leader and absolutely loved the team work and the pure sense of party fun that the Band had. We might of had a small band by the standards of the big city bands like the one featured in DRUMLINE, the movie that I'm using as an excuse to travel 15 years back in time to when I first entered the regimen of the High School Band.
The greatest thing about Band was the pride we had in playing the coolest pieces of music. The thrill of playing EL TIGRE or THE IMPERIAL MARCH or AFRICA (heh) was just electric. Hitting your solo dead on, just magical. We in the Seymour Panther Band always felt we kicked major ass. But then there was the subdividing of pride in the band. The Brass vs The Woodwinds vs Percussion. The most arrogant bastards around and the laziest were always those damn drum guys. Heh (that's coming from both a woodwind and brass man!) However, Drum Call was the coolest thing... I remember Joey on Quads throwing down a dare to the next drum squad to take the field. Joey was BADASS all caps and went on to continue that badassness with the greatest marching band in the world... THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS LONGHORN BAND (eat shit Aggies!)
Now, I'm sure this movie is a delightful bit of trash fun. The BRING IT ON of Marching Band movies. Highlighting the majorettes, twirlers and flashy moves. Inevitably the band romances (God Bus trips to cities for games ruled!) and I'm sure everyone will be dressed hip as hell. God forbid they show lazy fashion victims at school.... Like everyone, but me. Ahem... Anyway, I'll see this film and I'm looking forward to it. Band in High School was a blast and reliving that through this goofy movie will be a welcome reprieve to just having THE MUSIC MAN to watch.
