Hey folks, Harry here… Yes, this isn’t a movie update, but a plea to get out and vote. Before the last national election day I pleaded with you readers to get out and vote, because I felt that the elections were going to be tight. While I am personally a fairly liberal person with conservative tendencies from time to time, there is one thing I dislike more than the occasional Jesse Helms and that’s voter apathy. Folks that do not care and do not vote.
In fact it infuriates me. I see these people all the time, sometimes I see them in chat rooms screaming about how it isn’t important to talk politics because nothing ever changes. Well, a lot has changed since the last election. All of it isn’t simply because we had a change of leadership, some of it is simply due to the whims of a madman here or there. However, right now in the United States we’re on the precipice of some fairly intense decisions. We’re a country teetering at the brink of war. If you support that decision, show it by voting the way you feel. If you are against that direction then by all means, get out and vote and tell others that support that position to do the same.
In times like these there is a lot of blind support being thrown about, folks that say we should unify behind a leader as to not show weakness abroad. In times of national aggression that the populace is not unified on, it is a time to show that dissatisfaction individually at the polls. A time to vote and throw your personal support behind your personal beliefs about the economic future of this country, positions upon education, health care, taxes and the like.
You readers in Nevada, you’ll be deciding if Nevada becomes a state to smoke marijuana in. It’s on the ballot, if you want to add to the joys of Sin City, and guarantee regular visitation by hordes of folks that would be playing poker stoned… Then vote yes! It’ll means millions of extra dollars for the casinos… nobody gambles wisely stoned. Vegas will gain zillions in revenue.
Seriously though, vote your conscience. Take the time to do a little local research on your candidates, the local ballot items and vote. For me here in Austin, Texas this Tuesday this is how I will personally vote:
U.S. Senate: Ron Kirk.
U.S. Representative, District 10: Lloyd Doggett
