Hey folks, Harry here... At the All Night Horror Marathon, one supreme female artistic genius created the be all end all Richard Kelly homage costume in the form of FRANK. The cool part was the invisible forcefield that she rigged around it so the Mike Myers guy couldn't stab her... Smart thinking on Dorothy Parker's part! Anyway, Seems that Richard Kelly has been abroad and was holding court talking nearly nothing at all about KNOWING and how BESSIE will be his 3rd or 4th film down the line! I've read Richard's draft of KNOWING and absolutely loved it. However, if you ask me what it is about, my head'll explode because like DONNIE DARKO, it isn't a sentence, it isn't easy to boil down. Suffice to say it is another smart as hell, strange things are afoot at the Circle K type of thing! So here ya go...
hey - i just got back from london this weekend for a preview showing of donnie darko. i know you guys have had it a while but this was the first public screening in a non-US territory, i was excited. i loved the movie - i can't say enough about it but i know you don't want to hear that, you went through it a year ago.
so here's the thing. after the screening a few of us got to go meet with writer/director richard kelly at his hotel. it was a cosy little informal interview scenario for empire film magazine. we all got there as wannabe film-makers and i certainly learned a lot about what he went through to get this movie made.
most interestingly for you though i think, was that richard gave us a tiny piece of info. on what he's doing now. he said he has a script and is looking to start shooting sometime fairly soon on his next project. he says it's a sci-fi thing, that fans of donnie darko will be into it and that it's called "Knowing". of course he got asked what it was about and he said he couldn't tell us, it's a secret.
an interesting side note : he also got asked about a script called "Betty" which someone had picked up from a store in london. i don't know if he wrote it but it certainly seems he's firmly attached to it. he said he wanted to make that as his 3rd or 4th movie when he's got enough influence to make it an R and really violent.
there you go. personally i can't wait for these movies. donnie blew me away and he was such a great guy to talk with, really focussed and smart. feel free to edit the hell out of this if any of it's any good to you. the name to put at the bottom is ...
