Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
I must admit... I didn’t read the Dirk Pitt novels, so I barely know what this is all about. I do know that Clive Cussler has a lot of fans for this series of spy/adventure novels, and that Paramount and Crusader Entertainment are working together to bring this franchise to life. For a while, Rob Bowman was working on bringing the film to life, but he left just before REIGN OF FIRE came out, and Phil Alden Robinson signed on to direct at that point.
Well, looks like he’s gone, and they’re looking for directors again. The David Ward script is being used to try and land some a-list shooter, and there’s another bit of bait that’s been added to the mix: a star attached finally.
And it looks like Tom Cruise is going to be playing the lead role, Dirk Pitt, in this “Bond-style film based on Clive Cussler’s story of two environmental agency operatives who have to stop the Niger River from contaminating people.”
Let’s see who signs on to help Cruise kick off another big action franchise for the studio. It’s all going to depend on who they have attached. With this many books on the shelf, though, this is a lucrative potential property, and I’ll be Paramount works to get just the right person to kick it off...
"Moriarty" out.
