Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
See? Another festival round-up! This is such a crazy season for festival coverage, and we appreciate each and every one of you who send stuff in like this...
Dear Harry,
Ok, this will probably be my last post for a while as, sadly, our little film fest is over now (sniff!)
Man did I see some great movies! MY LITTLE EYE, DEMONLOVER, SHANGRI-LA, BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG, DOING TIME, VOLCANO HIGH, KEN PARK, SUICIDE CLUB, BIGGIE & TUPAC, BLOODY SUNDAY, and an anthology collection of three short ghost stories out of Hong Kong entitled THREE (oddly enough). The real news out of that one is the first short of the three, entitled MEMORIES.
Listen to me: FIND THIS FILM NOW!!! This one short film was one of the scariest, well-crafted creepfests I've ever seen. It single-handedley ruined the advance screening I had of Gore Verbinski's RING remake, no shit. After MEMORIES nothing else came close to being scary. It's from a Korean filmmaker named Kim Ji-Woon (seek him out!) This guy has the goods, trust me.
Tonight I decided to crash the closing gala party of the fest. Walking from the film that closed the festival I ran into Ian McKellan (no shit!) I blushed and managed to shake his hand and stammer something about being a fan and he offered to give me his ticket, alas, to no avail as he seemed to have misplaced it. No bother. I have my ways. Still, the man is a gentleman in every sense of the word.
So I bluffed my way inside, grabbed a drink, schmoozed like a king and ran into Bryan Singer again, and he even remembered me from the trade forum. He was there with one of the young writers from X2, Dan something... man, I suck... but fuck, it's late out here, sue me. Anyways, they were both in great spirits, if tired. Six days a a week of 18 hour days will do that to you. No, I did not pump them for scoops, even though I did think of you guys, really I did. The only real info I have on X-Men is about The Beast. He will be a major cast member in X3, and at one point, when X1 was being cast and The Beast was still in that draft of the script, Bryan seriously considered offering the role to Lawrence Fishburne, can you believe that? I may (fingers crossed) get on set soon and I may even get to go to Hugh Jackman's birthday coming up.
So all in all, this has been an incredible film fest. Harry, Moriarty, whoever... Get your asses up here next fall!! I will personally show you around or whatever and we'll have a blast, I promise. You have my email addy, so if you want to get in touch you know how. And hey, if you need a Vancouver correspondent let me know.
As always, you be cool. I'll be MooVeeBoy (Moriarty, spell it right this time!)
Later.
Oh, god... I’m afraid to go back and look now. How did I misspell it? All I can do is blame my currently sleep schedule. I’m not thin-skulled. I’m not a simp. I swear!!
"Moriarty" out.
