Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
This is just plain cool, and if you’re in LA and have the chance to get over to The Dome to see this, then do so. Immediately. I know I’ll be getting my tickets as soon as possible.
Hello Harry,
I had the opportunity to attend the first screening in over 45 years in LA of the original 3 - strip "This is Cinerama" which has been restored to its original glory...for the most part with great results.
While dated, the film stands as the first film to imerse audinces into the action. The restoration was apparantly difficult, but for Cinerama enthusiasts, this is like the Holy Grail. It also manages to transport one back to what appears to be better times; ie cities without modern skyscrapers, undeveloped landscapes all over the world, smiling faces almost everywhere...unprepared for the world of 2002. The opening prologue by Lowell Thomas, seen just prior to the famous roller coaster sequence that helped make Cinerama as a household word, is about how man discovered the potenital of the moving image...and it is priceless.
At the very end of the film, the 3 strip theatrical trailer for How the West Was Won is presented...and it shows just how far the process had advanced before it was jettisoned for a single strip 70mm method of filling that screen. It is also being restored and should be at the Dome by years end.
A word of caution, seats are reserved for this run, so best to request center seats if possible.
Awesome. Thanks, man, for the alert.
"Moriarty" out.
