Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
I know it’s a freakin’ bumper sticker, but I don’t care: I love New York.
I haven’t had the opportunity to go since 1996. I was working there at that time, developing a few film projects that never happened for various and sundry reasons, and it was a great, unforgettable time for me. I have nothing but fondness for the city. Hell, technically speaking, I’m a New Yorker by birth. Syracuse, to be specific.
And at the end of this month, I’ll be in the Greatest City On Earth once again for an evening of screenings that AICN is hosting with the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
On Friday, September 27th, we’ll be taking over the Clearview Cinemas at 239 E. 59th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Avenue). We’ll be showing a full night of films, including the world premiere of Ray Manzarek’s new film LOVE HER MADLY. Tim Sullivan and Brett Nemeroff, both of whom are working with Ray on his next film, helped put this all together along with the lovely and charming Danielle Hartzell, and I think we’re going to have a hell of a time.
At 6:00, we’re kicking the evening off with NIGHT AT THE GOLDEN EAGLE. My review for the film is here, and it’s turned into a real word of mouth hit, still playing in LA now, months after its initial release. If you haven’t had a chance to see Adam Rifkin’s film yet, come down and check it out.
At 8:00, it’s LOVE HER MADLY, the only film of the night that I haven’t seen yet. All I know is it was shot on DV, it was written and directed by Manzarek, and I’m intensely curious. His novel last year was great, so I hope he’s able to make a film of equal power and accomplishment here.
Finally, at 10:00, Magnolia Films has been good enough to provide us with a print of INTERVIEW WITH THE ASSASSIN. I was looking for a final film to program for the evening when I got a tape of this film, and I called Magnolia’s Eamon Bowles the next day to try and get the film. It’s THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT meets THE CONVERSATION, and it’s incredibly effective. Director Neil Burger hits some truly great paranoid notes with the film, which I’ll review before the screening next week.
Wanna buy some tickets?
First you need to go to the festival’s official site.
Hit the link for “Clearview Cinemas,” and then click on the “tkts” icon next to each film’s title to get your tickets.
Or just call Ticketweb at 1-866-468-7619.
I hope I get a chance to meet a whole mess of you guys that evening, and afterwards, we’ll go out and terrorize some poor restaurant in the area, so feel free to introduce yourself and come along. The whole point of these evenings is to share a few films and finally be able to talk face to face.
If there are any further details to update on the evening, I’ll do so right here, so make sure to check back between now and the actual event.
See you soon, New York!!
"Moriarty" out.
