This month's Cinema Texas Film Festival will welcome film makers Werner Herzog & Terrence Malick among others

This is one really cool fest, great people, greater vibes. Father Geek here, Harry and I have enjoyed their shorts programs for several years now stretching back to well before we started AICN. We even helped judge the entries a couple of years. You can't go wrong attending this international flavored event. Unfortunately this year we'll have to pass due to committments for Harry to be part of the program up at the Atlantic Film Fest in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the exact same dates. Bummer, but still plenty cool. If you're going to be in Texas the 17th thru the 22nd make plans to attend this... if you're going to be in Vikingland, well maybe you can catch Harry on one of his panels up there...

CINEMATEXAS INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

"The most promising and pioneering short film festival in the US" (Filmmaker Magazine) is proud to announce its 7th Annual Festival September 17-22, in Austin, Texas.

Focusing on experimental and genre-busting work, our International Competition screens 100 new films and video under 60 minutes from around the world, and has become known as a place to discover new talent. Highlights of 2002 special programs will include an in-person presentation by Werner Herzog of his rarely-seen non-fiction films; a new performance "How I Learned to Draw" by Miranda July; a program of silent film comedy selected by Terrence Malick; a retrospective of Santiago Alvarez, Cuban master of short film whose works have been virtually unseen in the US; the Tin Hat Trio performing their scores to the insect animations of a Lithuanian filmmkaer; the world-premiere of two electro-acoustic string quartets by Gerard Pape commissioned by the festival and performed by the Arditti Quartet; Parallax View, our culture jamming/political media symposium; the world premiere of Leslie Thornton's installation 10,000 Hills of Language; a performance and installation by Providence-based collective FORCEFIELD; our Video Art BBQ; and more.
