The key thing to note there is that Clint’s people are basically saying he’s interested. This is a very good publicity move considering how badly BLOOD WORK is tanking financially. I haven’t seen that film yet, so I have no idea if it’s good or bad. I’ve heard both. I like Eastwood a lot, but I didn’t feel any sense of urgency about going out to see that particular film. If he did a DIRTY HARRY film now, and if it was a serious movie, the UNFORGIVEN of the series, then I’d be excited, and the first in line to see it. I think there’s something great still to be said with that character in the right hands. Maybe Helgeland, since he and Eastwood just worked together. Or maybe he should get David Peoples to do it, since they were so successful together last time.
Whatever the case, this is a long, long way from actually being a film, so it’s probably best to dial the enthusiasm down a tad for the time being. Interesting idea, though... and your response showed that there’s an audience out there ready to see Callahan one more time. I wonder if Warner Bros. is listening...
