Never heard of this. Not a single word prior to this. Still... this guy seems smitten. Maybe it’s worth a look...
Saw a screening of a great small film called Evelyn the other day. Apparently United Artist is releasing it December 6th. If UA doesn't fuck up the marketing this film will definitely get Oscar nominations. It had great acting and a very emotional script.
It takes place in 1953 in Ireland, and Desmond Doyle (Pierce Brosnan) is devastated when his wife leaves and he can't find enough work to support his family. Things only get worse when Catholic Church and Irish court authorities take his children away, citing a 1941 law mandating they be put in a church-run orphanage.
Desmond recruits the help of an attorney (Aidan Quinn), a solicitor (Stephen Rea), a retired barrister (Alan Bates) and a barmaid (Julianna Margulies) in his quest to get his children back. Meanwhile, 9-year-old Evelyn, 7-year-old Maurice and 6-year-old Dermot must endure the hardships of life in the orphanage.
The film tells the story of a father's plight to reunite his family, the battle to overturn an outdated law, the strength of three young children and the love that binds a family. All in all it was a great flick.

Regardless of who sent me this review, I didn’t realize Bruce Beresford was working with Brosnan again, or that the actor had another movie out this Christmas besides Bond. I’m interested now, and I’ll keep my eyes out for more info on the film...
