Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
Some of you understood the contest. Others didn’t seem to realize what I’d asked of them. There were hundreds of you who wrote in, all trying to secure one of fifty pairs of tickets.
If you weren’t selected, don’t despair. There will be seats available on Saturday, and they’ll be available on a first come, first serve basis. There were a lot of deserving entries that I wasn’t able to award tickets to, just because there were so many of you. Please... don’t take it personally if you didn’t win. I’d still love to see you there, or at the AICN Screening of Roger Avery’s THE RULES OF ATTRACTION at The Egyptian Theater in September, or at other screenings we’ll be setting up in the near future. And if you wrote in from the LA area, I may be contacting you to alert you to other screenings going on so you can still be spies for us in the future.
I judged the essays that were sent to me on completely vague and random criteria. There was nothing scientific about it. I reacted emotionally as I read, and I picked the readers who surprised me with their choices, or who painted a particularly evocative picture of their first exposure to their fave, or who simply wrote something I agreed with completely.
I would say there were no losers in this contest if it weren’t for the people who took the time to send entries like “GLITTER scares me, so give me fucking tickets,” or the ones who neglected to even mention a film title. You have to love the entry that simply read, “Did I win?”
Ummmm... no. You didn’t.

There are four more of you, four winners who didn’t include their names. I’ve e-mailed you back, asking you to clarify, and I’ll tell all the winners above the same thing I told them. In order to get in, you’re going to have to show an ID with the names that were on the winning entries. I’ll also be e-mailing all the winners a “password,” a confirmation so that not just anyone can show up. I mean, what’s the guy named Mark Hamill going to do if he shows up and some geek icon is sitting in his seat?!
Let’s review everything we know here:
THE SCREENING BEGINS AT 4:00!!
ALL WINNERS MUST BE CHECKED IN BY NO LATER THAN 3:30!!
ALL WINNERS MUST BRING A VALID I.D. FOR ENTRY!! ALL WINNERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO GIVE THE PASSWORD FOR ENTRY!!
ALL WINNERS ARE ALLOWED ONE GUEST!!
The screening itself is at the Pacific Paseo Stadium 14 Theaters in Pasadena.
That’s at 336 E. Colorado Blvd.
Theater 2.
At 3:30, we’re going to open the theater up to the rest of you. We'll keep packing you in as long as we have seats to give.
I’ve got a few surprises up my sleeve aside from the title of the film. I can tell you this... we’re going to have a lot of fun at this thing. The Metreon event where Harry and I showed GLADIATOR in San Francisco was enormous fun, and so was the recent sneak I did of THE SALTON SEA. I love these opportunities to meet all of you and share a first glimpse of something potentially cool.
And for those of you who have been guessing what film it is... I’m just going to say that it can’t possibly be RED DRAGON. Sure, Quint visited Ratner in the editing room when he was in LA recently, but that doesn’t mean he’d show us the film early. Gosh, no.
And I’m almost positive that Joel Silver and Warner Bros. aren’t planning to give us GHOST SHIP or FEARDOTCOM. Think about it. It’s Warner Bros. They hate us. They’d NEVER give us those movies.
And it can’t be THE RING. That’s impossible. DreamWorks has a lot riding on that film, and the ad campaign seems to be playing coy games with the audience. The new TV spots don’t even identify themselves as movie ads. You think they’re going to risk showing the film now, this far out, and possibly give away key secrets to an Internet-savvy audience?
I wish I could say it’s HOUSE OF 1,000 CORSPES. It would be awesome if Rob Zombie were cool enough to offer us his original cut of the movie, the one before he started trying to appease the R-rated appetite of MGM with his NC-17 meal. I wish I could say we’d be soaking up every bit of intended gore when the film begins on Saturday. Can’t, though.
And Danny Boyle’s 28 DAYS LATER would be blisteringly cool to get hold of. Too cool for me, I’m sure. Sounds like a real original, and I’m sure Fox Searchlight isn’t about to hand it over to me, not when they’re working so hard to create a sense of real mystery with that amazing first trailer.
So what the hell could it be?
Give you a hint... it just might rhyme with SHIMFAN. Or BREAMCATCHER. Or MEEPERS CREEPERS 2. Ahem.
Or maybe I'm a total fibber, and it's one of the ones I said it isn't, and you’ll just have to wait and see.
... hehehehehe... I'm really enjoying this...
"Moriarty" out.
