NAQOYQATSI Trailer Online Now!! Reggio's 'Life' Trilogy Concludes!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

THERE IS NO MORE NATURE

THERE IS ONLY TECHNOLOGY

EVERYDAY LIFE IS WAR

September 17th is a big day for DVD freaks like me. First, there’s big ticket items like MONSTERS INC. (which includes the hysterically funny short film “Mike’s New Car” which I saw at the El Capitan), but there’s a series of smaller films like Robert Altman’s THE LONG GOODBYE (a desperately oddball take on Raymond Chandler which is a spiritual precursor to THE BIG LEBOWSKI), Bill Paxton’s flawed but powerful FRAILTY, Ken Burns’s epic THE CIVIL WAR, EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS, John Duigan’s FLIRTING, and Kiarostami’s THE WIND WILL CARRY US.

Before I pick up any of those, though, I’ll be making sure I have my copies of Godfrey Reggio’s KOYAANISQATSI and POWAQAATSI. If you’ve never been lucky enough to see these films, get ready for something very special. I’m so pleased the rights to these films have been worked out so that I can finally have beautiful copies of my own.

Reggio has been working on his trilogy of cinematic poems about the state of the modern world and man’s dysfunctional relationship with the planet itself since the late ‘70s. KOYAANISQATSI is a Hopi Indian word meaning “life out of balance,” and POWAQAATSI means “life in transformation.”

The reason this is all news tonight is because iFilm just posted the trailer for NAQOYQATSI, the final film in the trilogy. This time, Reggio examines “life as war.” The trailer, which you can find HERE, is startling and beautiful, and certainly looks to be of a piece with the first two films.

Very cool, and very exciting.

"Moriarty" out.
