Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
Today seems to be the day of the quickie reviews. Get in, get out, pro and con. It’s kinda nice, isn’t it?
Harry,
Long time reader, Love the site, first time review.
Saw The Tuxedo last night at a test screening, Pacific Theatre, Northridge Fashion Center, Los Angeles, California.
Standard Jackie Chan action comedy, which relies more on the special effects and wire fu inspired by his gadget laden super Tuxedo. This Tuxedo transforms our overly shy taxi driving hero into a world class super spy through unrevealed nanotechnology. It is all controlled by his amazing, menu-selectable watch. This movie will be remembered more for the suit and the strange “deer begins the water cycle” opening than any special Jackie moves.
Jennifer Love Hewitt ranged from cute to annoyingly cute and her comedy skills were best spent laughing at Jackie in the now famous “after movie outtakes” which usually show off the more dangerous stunts and mishaps, but here focuses more on the mishaps and Jackie’s continuing difficulties with English (one would think that by now he wouldn’t still have such a problem).
It was a pleasant surprise to see Jason Isaacs not play a heavy and his turn as secret agent Devlin is a nice Bond send up.
As always it is nice to see Debi Mazar, especially when they give us a long loving close up of her butt.
Overall an enjoyable although lighter Jackie Chan flick. Not as funny as either Rush Hour or Shanghai Noon and not as action packed as Drunken Master or Rumble in the Bronx, more in the vein of Armor of God.
Call me Darkwind.
Hey, you had me at the Debbie Mazar thing. I’m in. When’s it open again?
"Moriarty" out.
