Ok, the spy here has good credentials (on my side of the fence), so I know the report is true. BUT look at the report. Ben Affleck is not signed, there is no script in place, there is no director in place and it is "A" name mentioned by 'one of the WB suits'. What does that mean? Well it means that, for now, he is an early name being considered on a theoretical and hypothesized pre-script concept for a new Batman film, which wouldn't be Batman 5, but would be a beginning of a new franchise (if it were to succeed). This is by no means final, you shouldn't go jumping around saying BEN IS BATMAN, in all likelihood Ben hasn't heard this himself and probably hasn't been approached, and won't be until more than a single WB suit begins saying it. As for how do I feel about it? Well, let's just say I think he would kick ass in the role if whatever director were attached paid close attention to the source material and kept a firm grip on the film and didn't let it spiral out of control.
Here's the tidbit: If Batman 5 goes the route of adapting the comic Batman: Year One the name of the actor my friend heard being mentioned by one of the WB suits is...
Ben Affleck.
Wow. I don't even know what to think about this. I mean, the idea of doing Year One is a tremendous idea to revitalize the franchise, IMO...and Affleck has shown some heroic chops. What do [you] think? Anyway, it's all rumor, but everything my contact has told me in the past has been reliable...and he *does* work at WB.
For a-i-c-n purposes, call me Major Kong.
