Sharon Stone Set To Join THE LIAR

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

When I was in the lobby of Harmony Gold the other morning after the screening of ROAD TO PERDITION, I ran into none other that Scarface himself. First we chatted about how he got cut from the film, and then he slipped me this piece of paper, all folded up. When I got home, I was surprised to find the following note on that paper:

Hola Moriarty!

This is an exclusive scoop. It seemed as if the press couldn't get enough of Sharon Stone this year at Cannes. But, can you blame them? Stone has always steamed up, not only the red carpet, but the silver screen. From her sexy role as Catherine Tramell in "Basic Instinct," to her Oscar nominated performance as Ginger in Scorsese's "Casino."

At the beginning of Cannes, Stone told a conference:

"I don't know what I'm going to do yet because I don't know what movies I want to make."

Well, Moriarty, I'm here to tell you she has indeed chosen her next role. I know some people involved with this next project. Stone is set to star in an adaptation of Mary Karr's book, entitled, "The Liar's Club: A Memoir."

I'm not familiar with the book, but it seems as if Stone has decided to do a really deep independent project as her next film.

Amazon.com has a synopsis up of the book --

In this funny, razor-edged memoir, Mary Karr, a prize-winning poet and critic, looks back at her upbringing in a swampy East Texas refinery town with a volatile, defiantly loving family. She recalls her painter mother, seven times married, whose outlaw spirit could tip into psychosis; a fist swinging father who spun tales with his cronies - dubbed the Liars' Club; and a neighborhood rape when she was eight. An inheritance was squandered, endless bottles emptied, and guns leveled at the deserving and undeserving. With a row authenticity stripped of self pity, and a poet's eye for the lyrical detail, Karr shows us a "terrific family of liars and drunks...redeemed by a slow unearthing of truth."

The film is going to be directed by Nadia Tass (Malcom, Pure Luck, Child Star: The Shirley Temple Story) and is being financed by Canal Studios. Shooting begins this Fall.

Here's to wishing Sharon the best! Cheers!

I remember reading this book several years ago. It’s a harrowing story, and a great one, and if they manage to make a worthy film of the material, it could be a pretty interesting role for Stone. I’ll keep my ears open for more...

"Moriarty" out.
