Hey folks, Harry here... I'm one of those people that love loving Star Trek, but often times find it hard to love, due to cookie cutter assembly line blandness. However, as the word from the one person that has seen a rough version came in raving... and a blow by blow of the teaser appeared on TrekWeb.Com and then finally this look below... I'm excited. Looks like July 1st is the first chance many of us will have a chance to see it. Here ya go...
Harry,
I was one of the lucky few that got to see the first teaser trailer for "Star Trek: Nemesis" today at Trek Expo 2002 in Tulsa, OK. The rep from Paramount was really cool; he played the trailer three times just to be sure everyone got a look.
I don't really want to give a play-by-play recounting of the trailer (mainly because I know I'll remember something wrong), but I want everyone to know that this is one kick-ass trailer and "Nemesis" looks like its definitely going to be one kick-ass movie! The trailer starts off quietly and mysteriously, with snippets of dialouge and various footage. The exterior planets shots are very cool...especially one that I believe was Romulus. They look much more like "Star Wars" than "Star Trek". Before long, the trailer kicks into full gear, and an action montage begins, complete with techno music, lots of shit blowing up, a shot of the infamous "Federation Jeep," and even a shot of a rather steamy looking love scene with Tom Hardy's Shinzon! A! ll the while, the words "This December...A Generation's...Final Journey Begins" (or something like that) are splashed across the screen. The montage is capped off with a shot of Data leaping from an exposed Enterprise corrider into space and the trailer ends with a cool 3-D animation of the "Nemesis" logo and the startrek.com address.
The most promising aspects of the trailer are how un-"Star Trek" this movie looks. It looks more a sleek high-energy, science-fiction action film...which it essentially is. Stuard Baird has obvious never directed "Star Trek" before and, believe me, that's a good thing. The camera angles don't look like "Star Trek", the lighting doesn't look like "Star Trek", the costumes don't look like "Star Trek", the sets don't look like "Star Trek", even the ships (other than the Enterprise) don't look like "Star Trek"!!! There's even sex in this thing, for God's sake!!! And let me tell you, Tom Hardy is incredibly creepy as Shinzon...I can't wait to see his full performance.
Anyway, that's all I've got for you. For all of you who weren't at the convention today, the rep from Paramount said the trailer is set to debut on "Entertainment Tonight" on July 1st, and it will be in theaters with "Men in Black II" and hit the internet on July 4th weekend.
