Harry here... In 8 hours I could be seeing SCOOBY DOO for free, instead I'm boarding the nearest plane and fleeing the state to head out into the center of the desert to watch a Bruce Campbell/Elvis Vs a Mummy movie called BUBBA HOTEP and John Sayles' SUNSHINE STATE and Jeff Daniels' SUPERSUCKERS, a new Rose McGowan flick, RUN RONNIE RUN and a host of potentially fun as hell flicks in the hell spawned Vegas of today. A Vegas as corruptively fucked up as this new SCOOBY DOO. A Vegas completely bastardized. The following reviewer seems to hold Scooby Doo in some sort of disdain or a vague sense of apathy towards it... Generalizing that "Those that actually liked that cartoon will probably like this!" Uh huh. Whatever... I'm not buying that. Like I said, I'm off to Vegas to discover quality cinema and what went wrong with the dream of Babylon...
Harry,
Ended up seeing Scooby Doo tonight (was at our theatre's test screening). Don't know if you've gotten alot of reviews of Scooby but though you might like another.
I am going to say right off that the movie wasn't bad. If you're willing to pay seven bucks to go see any movie about Scooby Doo, then you'll probably have the same opinion. There are many people on this planet, however, who would rather soak themselves in boiling yaks blood and sacrifice themselves to the god of Cibola than see a movie about Scooby Doo. They'll find this movie irritating.
The plot is not all that complicated, but there are some funny scenes that made me chuckle. There are even some minor Shaggy drug use references that many of you will catch. It takes place in an amusement park that has a problem with it: all the people who leave act like zombies. There are the usual suspects, the Scooby Snacks, everything you loved/hated about Scooby Doo.
The CGI was horrible. There wasn't a scene with CGI that was realistic. But, remember, you are watching a movie about a talking dog who solves crimes with a bunch of idiots. The studio probably figured that Scooby wasn't realistic, thus a realistic 'Alien'esqe monster would be out of place. If that sort of crap really bothers you, go stoned, or better yet, don't go.
Overall I figure this movie is a good matinee movie. If you liked Scooby Doo the TV show, you’ll probably like this movie. If you disliked Scrappy Doo you’ll love this movie: he’s barely in it. It was entertaining enough to say that I didn't waste my money.
All hail the Crimson King,
The Walkin' Dude
