Mike Myers and SCOOBY DOO!!

Well, Tommy Bingo was the first to send in that MR. SHOWBIZ (link on links page) ran a story about Mike Myers landing the job of penning the SCOOBY DOO movie. Of course MR. SHOWBIZ got it from USA TODAY (also found on the links page). I have mixed feelings about this since the script by Craig Titley was perfectly fine as it was, but hey... whatever... Throw more money at the project and it must end up better... right? Sigh. Anyway, Tommy Bingo, takes a shot at the concept of Jason White as Shaggy in his comments after the quoted text from Mr. Showbiz, but the way I see it... I would love to see Jason White as SHAGGY, that would just about be as cool as cool could be. As for Fred, couldn't ya just see.... Oh, I'll spare ya... here's the news...

From the Mr. Showbiz website:

Mike Myers' has landed a real dog of a job. The star of Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, who made "Yeah, baby!" a household phrase, is hoping to have the whole country craving Scooby snacks. Yup, Myers is penning a live-action version of the pop culture classic cartoon series Scooby-Doo, says USA Today. The paper says Myers could possibly star in the film, although there's no word on who he'd play.

In the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? series, which ran from 1969-1976 on CBS, four teenagers-pretty, mini-skirted Daphne, kneesock-wearing Velma, cowardly, "Zoinks!"-crying Shaggy, and lantern-jawed Freddy-solved crimes with the help of that lovable Great Dane Scooby-Doo.

Each episode usually ended with the Mystery Machine pals ripping off the mask of the bad guy or gal, who then promptly said, "And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for those darn kids." The series mutated over the years, appearing in a variety of incarnations, including the dreaded Scrappy-Doo franchise.

My bet that if Myers is part of the cast, he'll either use his voice for an animatronic Scooby or play the bad guy, after his MTV-award winning turn as Dr. Evil. Will Seth Green, Dr. Evil's son from Austin Powers, get a crack at the Shaggy role? Size shouldn't matter. (Which reminds me, I too was very bummed to find out the Prequel poster teaser was bunk. Come on, George, throw me a bone here!)

The best part of this news is that Kevin Smith will have no chance of using the concept, as rumored, for another "buddy" venture with the talent-poor Jason Lee as Shaggy, or Ben Affleck as Fred, or his girlfriend as Daphne.

Call me Tommy Bingo.
